Overview

Magnetostrictive Displacement Sensors (E Series, ES Structure)

This document describes the Magnetostrictive Displacement Sensors, specifically the E Series with ES Structure, designed for detecting the displacement of motion mechanisms. These sensors are available with Analog and Modbus interfaces, offering versatility in integration.

Function Description

The core function of the magnetostrictive displacement sensor is to accurately detect the displacement of a motion mechanism. This is achieved through the magnetostrictive principle, where a magnet ring (or block) interacts with the sensor's electronic components. The sensor measures the position of this magnet ring along its length, providing a precise displacement output.

The sensor's operation relies on a matched magnet ring or block, which is selected based on the specific detection application. It is crucial to use the original parts (cable, connector, magnet ring/block, and sensor body) provided by the manufacturer to ensure proper functionality and maintain warranty. Unauthorized opening of the sensor shell is strictly prohibited as it may void the product warranty.

Important Technical Specifications

Electrical Interfaces:

The sensors support both Analog and Modbus interfaces, with specific pin arrangements for each.

Analog Interface (PA40/PA50):

  • 2-wire system (Sensor Oriented):

    • Pin 1 (Brown/Red): +24Vdc±20% power supply
    • Pin 2 (White/Black): GND (power supply circuit)
    • Pins 3, 4, 5 (Blue, Black, Grey): Do not connect
  • Four-wire system (Sensor Oriented):

    • Pin 1 (Brown/Red/Red): +24Vdc±20% power supply
    • Pin 2 (White/Black/Black): GND (power supply circuit)
    • Pin 3 (Blue/Blue/Brown): Magnet ring position signal +
    • Pin 4 (Black/Green/Green): Magnet ring position signal -
    • Pin 5: Do not connect

    Note on Cable Colors:

    • Cable color 1: PUR sheath, black, -40~80°C, end scattered
    • Cable color 2: PUR sheath, orange, -20~90°C, end scattered
    • Cable color 3: PVC sheath, black, -40~80°C, end scattered

Modbus Interface (PA40/PA50 - Sensor Oriented):

  • Pin 1 (Brown/Red/Red): +24Vdc±20% power supply
  • Pin 2 (White/Black/Black): GND (power supply circuit)
  • Pin 3 (Blue/Yellow/Brown): T+ (A)
  • Pin 4 (Black/White/Green): T- (B)
  • Pin 5: Do not connect

Physical Dimensions:

  • Cable Outlet Mode:
    • Overall length: 65 mm
    • Diameter: ~Ø5.6/Ø7.2 (cable outlet), ~Ø15/Ø17 (sensor body)
    • Stroke length: 50.8 mm (typical)
    • Position magnet ring: 50.8* mm (typical)
    • Liquid level floating ball: 63.5* mm (typical)
    • Note: When selecting the float, the head non-usable area ≥ 14 + the float radius.
  • Connector Outlet Mode:
    • Overall length: ~59 mm
    • Width: ~46 mm
    • Diameter: ~Ø5.6/Ø7.22 (cable outlet)
    • Connector types: PA40/PA50
    • Cable types: 1. PUR black cable, 2. PVC black cable

Environmental Considerations:

The sensor is a magnetic measurement device, and as such, it is susceptible to interference from strong magnetic fields. It is crucial to ensure that there are no strong magnetic fields around the sensor that could affect data accuracy. The displacement output signal cable should be routed away from power cables or any sources of large current or strong pulse interference. Environmental parameters such as temperature and vibration must be within the sensor's nominal operating range.

Usage Features

Safety Precautions:

  • Before powering up the sensor, carefully read the operating manual.
  • Confirm the outgoing mode and pin signal definition, and make correct electrical connections to prevent damage or misoperation.
  • Avoid high-power equipment (e.g., welding machines) from introducing current into the sensor's working circuit during construction and use.
  • If any abnormal sensor data or visible changes (e.g., bumping deformation) are observed, immediately cease use and contact the manufacturer for confirmation before resuming operation.

Installation:

The installation process involves fixing the sensor body, the magnet, and the cable.

  • Sensor Body Installation: Common methods include thread installation, clamp installation, and matching fixing installation. Before installation, inspect the packaging and the sensor body for any signs of bending or bumping. The sensor body should be assembled according to its specific installation form.
  • Magnet Installation: When installing magnets, use matching magnetic insulation gaskets to ensure a normal magnetic field circuit.
  • Plug/Cable Installation: Connect plugs or cables accurately according to the electrical interface definitions provided in the instructions.

Status Indication:

The ES structure magnetostrictive displacement sensor does not feature an LED lamp for status indication.

Maintenance Features

After-Sales Support:

In the event of a sensor malfunction, contact the company's after-sales department promptly. Do not attempt to repair the sensor yourself. This ensures that any issues are addressed by qualified personnel and that the warranty remains valid.
