Overview

The provided document is a user and installation manual for a Tecma Marine Cooker, Model: Nelson S-OH1500Z, designed for use with Propane Gas in Australia.

Function Description

The Tecma Nelson S-OH1500Z is a marine cooking appliance that can be used as either a free-standing unit or mounted on gimbals. It features a hob with two burners, a grill, and an oven, providing versatile cooking options for marine environments. The appliance is designed to operate with Propane Gas and incorporates safety features such as flame failure sensing devices for each burner, which automatically cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: Nelson S-OH1500Z
  • Gas Type: Propane Gas Only
  • Gas Pressure: 2.75 kPa
  • Dimensions (approximate):
    • Overall (Hob): 450mm (width) x 240mm (depth) x 380mm (height to hob surface, 215mm to base)
    • Overall (Cooker): 500mm (width) x 475mm (depth) x 495mm (height)
    • Gimballed Installation: Requires 500mm minimum height clearance, 64mm minimum width clearance, and 15mm minimum depth clearance. A 205mm space is recommended behind the appliance for a 30° swing.
  • Gas Connection: 6mm (1/4" BSP) female gas connection at the rear.
  • Injector Sizes and Heat Output:
    • Burners: 0.62mm, 5.4 MJ/h
    • Grill: 0.62mm, 5.4 MJ/h
    • Oven: 0.59mm, 4.8 MJ/h
  • Hose Assembly (for gimballed installation): Must be certified to AS/NZS 1869 Class D, with a 1¼" BSP female connection, and a maximum length of 1.2m.
  • Oven Temperature Range: 130°C to 240°C (Gas Mark 1/4-1/2 to 9).

Usage Features

  • Installation Flexibility: Can be used as a free-standing appliance or mounted on gimbals for stability in a marine environment. Gimballed installation allows for a 30° swing to counteract boat movement.
  • Hob Operation: Each hob burner is controlled individually with a knob that can be depressed and turned anti-clockwise to the full rate position for ignition. Holding the knob for approximately 15 seconds after ignition allows the flame failure sensing probe to reach temperature. The knob can be turned further anti-clockwise for a simmer position. To turn off, rotate the knob fully clockwise.
  • Grill Operation: The grill operates similarly to the hob burners. A few minutes of preheat are recommended. The grill door MUST be left open while the grill is in use. A reversible grill pan trivet allows for different grilling heights (high position for fast toasting, sausages, steak/bacon; low position for chops; trivet removed for slow cooking).
  • Oven Operation:
    • Lighting: Open the oven door, push in the control knob, and turn to gas mark 9. For manual ignition, apply a lighted match or taper to the burner and hold the control knob in for 10-15 seconds. For models with spark ignition, depress the ignition button.
    • Temperature Control: The oven features a thermostatic gas tap allowing temperature adjustment from 130°C to 240°C. Temperature varies within the oven, with the top being hotter and the base cooler, approximately one Gas Mark difference.
    • Oven Shelves: Designed for good air circulation and feature a raised bar to prevent trays from touching the back of the oven. Shelves are removable by pulling forward and raising the front.
    • Flame Failure Device (FFD): The oven burner is equipped with an FFD to automatically cut off gas supply if the flame extinguishes.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Installation must be carried out by an authorised person and comply with AS 5601-2004 Gas Installations Section 6.3 and LP Gas Systems for Marine Craft.
    • Only use in a well-ventilated area.
    • Keep children away from the cooker when in use.
    • Turn pan handles inwards to prevent accidental knocking.
    • Never leave fat or oil unattended on the hotplate.
    • Ensure all controls are in the off position when finished.
    • Do not use as a space heater.
    • If fitted in a touring caravan or motor van, all burners should be extinguished when the vehicle is moving, and the cylinder valve to the appliance should preferably be turned off.
    • In case of a gas smell, turn off the supply at the cylinder immediately, extinguish all naked lights, do not operate electrical switches, and open doors/windows to ventilate. Check for leaks with a leak detector spray, never a naked flame.
    • The appliance must be tested for soundness and flame stability after installation. Gas supply input pressure must remain stable when all connected appliances are operating simultaneously.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: The appliance requires little maintenance other than regular cleaning. All parts should be cleaned with warm soapy water. Abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or cleansing powders should be avoided to prevent scratching.
  • Burner Rings: When cleaning burner rings, ensure the holes do not become blocked.
  • Control Knobs: The control knobs are push-fit and can be removed for cleaning. They are interchangeable.
  • Spark Ignition Battery: On units fitted with battery spark ignition, the battery should be renewed with a suitable long-life battery when spark generation becomes extended.
  • Authorised Modifications: The appliance must NOT be modified or adjusted unless authorised and carried out by the manufacturer or their representative. Only parts supplied by the manufacturer should be used.
  • Service: For service, contact an authorised local Service Agent with full details of the model, serial number, and date of purchase.
