Caravan SERVICE BULLETIN
CAB-30-02
WARNING:
For health and environmen ta l data, review the Ma teria l Sa fety Data
Sheet (MSDS) for TKS fluid. Refer to the MSDS that should be
included with the sh ipm ent of TKS uid. If you cannot locate the
MSDS, contact your supplier of the TKS fluid to obtain the MSDS.
WARNING: Make sure tha t you use applicabl e eye protection when you work
near the ice pro t ection system. The sys tem uses high pressure
in the lines to operate cor rectl y, and the flu id p ressure stays in
the system lines until it i s r eleased. I f you d o not use appl ic able
eye protectio n, fluid un der pressure can hit yo ur eyes and ca use
dam age when yo u do work on the system.
WARNING: Discard all unwanted TKS flu id and/or dirty cloths cor rectl y. TKS
fluid is a hazardo us waste and must be discarded in accorda nce
with procedures approv ed by the local juri sdicti on.
(1) Make sure that you w ear applicable eye protection when y ou do work on or near t he ice
protection system.
WARNING: Before y ou disconnect com po nents of the TKS anti-ice sys te m ,
slowly loosen the coupling that is connected to the component
to be remove d because it is possible th at high p ressure is sti ll
in the system.
(2) Sl owly loosen t he connection at the necessary fitting t o release high pres su re i n the system .
WARNING: Make sure that you remove i ce pro t ectio n fluid from the floor
surfaces where passen gers and perso nnel walk. The fluid can
make surfaces slick.
(3) Remove all ice protection fluid from areas where people walk. Since there i s leakage of uid
from the panels f or a w hile afte r the system is no longe r in operation, make sure t hat you
collect uid that drips from the airplane or co ntinue to remove uid from the floor until there
is no more leakage.
CAUTION: Never use unapproved ice p rotection uids in the ice protection system.
Never use a thickened anti-ice uid or one that is made for use on the
runway, in automobiles, or on p arke d airplanes. If you us e fluids that
do not meet the DTD 406B specificat ion, y ou will do damage to the
membrane s in the porous panels and other system c omponents.
CAUTION: Use only clean, filtered fluid in t he TKS system. Cont amination w ill cause
fluid blockage and/or damage to the porous panel.
(4) Use only ice protection uids that meet the DT D 406B spec ific at ion in t he ice protection sy stem.
(5) You can mix fluids tha t meet the DTD 406B specification in any proport ions in the airplane tank.
CAUTION: Do n ot do damage to the ice protection system with solvents or paints.
Most solvents and all paints can caus e dam age to t he pla stic membrane in
the porous panels. Use o nly the materials f rom the li st below when you
work on or near the porous pan els. Never use MEK, acetone, or lacqu er
thinner. Always use masking m aterial when you use pai nt or solvent s that
are not on the list below when you work on or near the porous panels.
(6) The materials that follow are approved to c lean the porous panels. Use them with a brush or a
lint-free c lot h:
Water with s oaps or detergents
Avi ati on gas oli ne
Isopropyl alcohol
Industrial methylated spirit
Ice-protection uids that are approved for us e on th e airp lane
Avi ation turbine fuel
