UNPACKING INSTRUCTIONS
The simplest
way to
unpack
the
speaker is to turn
it
upside down,
remove
the
packing
material
from the
bottom of the
carton
and
then
carefully stand the
speaker
in
the
carton
right
side
up. You can then lift
the
carton off the
speaker. lf there
is any
shipping damage,
contact
either
your
dealer or the factory
for instructions.
POSITIONING
THE
SPEAKERS
The
O4's are
relatively
non-critical
to room
placement
and will
provrde
good
results
almost anywhere.
However,
we
recommend
they
be
placed
at
least
one foot from
a wall and
at
least
three feet
from
a corner.
Ihey
perform
best when
positioned
well away from
all walls,
as
this minimizes
early reflections
and room resonances
and so
provides
the
most open,
uncolored reproduction
as
well
as the most
accurate
bass
resoonse.
LISTENER POSITION
The 04's
provide
broad dispersion
of energy
at all frequencies
and are
designed to
provide
good
results
throughout
a large listening
area.
Of
course,
the
best imaging
is
provided
for
a
listener
centered
in front of
the
speakers.
Also, optimum
phase
and
time
alignment is
provided
only
for
a seated
listener
who is
eight or more
feet
away from the
speakers.
CONNECTING
THE
SPEAKERS
It is
essential for
proper performance
that
both speakers in
a stereo
system be wired in the
same
polarity.
The input terminals
are color
coded to facilitate this.
For
example, the wire
connected to the
red input
ternninal
of each
speaker should
connect to the respective
positive
output terminals
of the
amplifier.
(The
polarity
can be reversed,
but
BOTH speakers must
be reversed.)
The
speakers
should be connected
to the
amplifier with heavy
gauge
wire to insure minimal loss
of
power
and
proper
control
by
the
amplifier.
The
minimum
size
recommended
for
relatively
short
runs
is 18
gauge.
Larger
sizes
(16
or
14
gauge)
are
preferred,
especially for long
runs.
The speaker terminals
will
accept
sizes
up
to
12
gauge.
ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT
The
04
is
a
very high
quality
sound
reproducer
and
therefore will benefit
from the
use
of
high
quality
associated
equipment. Since
it is very
accurate,
it will reveal
sources of distortion elsewhere
in the
system. For
example, distortion resulting from
cartridge
misalignment or
stylus
wear
will be reproduced.
The O4's are
of medium
efficiency and so should be
driven with
amplifiers
of
adequate
power
for
your
listening levels. lt is important
not
to
overdrive
your
amplifier so
that
it
produces
distortion which can
damage
high frequency
drivers.
