InstallingtheCuttingUnitAssembly
1.Cleanthesideplatesandothercuttingunitcomponents.Inspecttheside
platesandpitcharmsforwearordamageandreplacethecomponents
ifnecessary.
2.Ensurethattheockedseals,reelbearings,bearinglockscrew,andreel
driveshaftareproperlypositionedonthecuttingunit;refertoServicingthe
CuttingUnitAssembly(page7–31).
CAUTION
Contactwiththereel,bedknifeorothercuttingunitpartscanresult
inpersonalinjury.
Useheavygloveswhenhandlingthebedbar.
3.Positionthecuttingunitonaatworkarea.Therollers,bedbar,andcutting
unitcrossmembershouldbeattachedtotheleftsideplate.Ensurethatthe
leftpitcharm(item16inFigure176)andcompressionspringaretted
totheleftsideplate.
4.Placetheatwirespringintothebearingboreoftheleftsideplate.Carefully
slidethecuttingunitassembly(withtheockedseals,reelbearings,bearing
lockscrew,andreeldriveshaft)intotheleftsideplate.Ensurethatthe
bearingisfullyseatedintothesideplate.
5.Carefullyslidetherightsideplatewiththerightpitcharm(item2inFigure
176)andcompressionspringontothecuttingunitassembly,frontrollerand
rearroller.Ensurethatthesideplateisfullyseatedontobearingonthe
reelshaft.
6.Installtheshoulderbolts(item8inFigure176)andangenutstosecure
therightsideplatetothecrossmember;torquetheshoulderboltsto24to
27N∙m(210to240in-lb).
IMPORTANT
Ifthereeldriveshaft(item5inFigure178)istobetightened,use
appropriatewrenchorsocketon1inchhexsurfaceofshaft.Do
notuse1/2inchextensionontheendofthereeldriveshaftwhen
looseningortighteningthedriveshaft.The1/2inchhexisintended
forbacklappingonly.
7.Ifthebearinglocknut(right-handthreads)andreeldriveshaft(left-hand
threads)wereloosenedduringthecuttingunitservice,putablockofwood
betweenthecuttingunitbladestopreventthereelfromrotating.T orquethe
bearinglocknut(right-handthreads)andreeldriveshaft(left-handthreads)
from123to149N∙m(90to110ft-lb)(Figure178).
8.Securethebedbarassemblytotherightsideplate;refertoInstallingthe
Bedbar(page7–11).Ensurethattheplasticandsteelwashersareproperly
positioned.
9.Securethefrontandrearrollerstotherightsideplate;refertoInstallingthe
FrontRoller(page7–19)andInstallingtheRearRoller(page7–21).
10.Adjustthecuttingunit;refertotheCuttingUnitOperator'sManual.
