SITUATION: The mowers listed above are significantly different from last year’s

machines and require a few new steps in the setup process that we

would like to call to your attention.

Cable routing

When assembling the handle to the mower, be sure the cables are

routed to the outside of the lower handle mounts. Once the handle is

mounted, place the cable guard(s) around the cables and attach the

guard(s) to the handle.

Next, check that the throttle lever is in the CHOKE position. Also, make sure the wire is securely connected to the spark plug. Finally, inspect the spark plug for any pitting, fouling, or incorrect gap; adjust or replace it if necessary. If the problem persists after checking these, contact an Authorized Service Dealer.

A pitted, fouled, or incorrectly gapped spark plug can also prevent the engine from starting. You should drain and refill the fuel tank with fresh gasoline, connect the wire to the spark plug, and inspect/adjust or replace the spark plug as needed.

Next, check the air filter for dirt and clean the pre-cleaner or replace the paper air filter if needed. Remove any clippings and debris from the underside of the mower. Inspect the spark plug for pitting, fouling, or an incorrect gap, adjusting or replacing it as necessary. Lastly, verify the engine oil level and change the oil if it's dirty or low.

Stale fuel in the fuel tank, a dirty air filter restricting airflow, clippings and debris under the mower housing, a faulty spark plug, or low/dirty engine oil could be the cause. To resolve this, drain and refill the fuel tank with fresh gasoline, clean or replace the air filter, clean under the mower housing, inspect/replace the spark plug, and check/change the engine oil.
