Changing the Hydraulic
Fluid and Filters
Service Interval : After the rst 250 hours —Change
the hydraulic lters and hydraulic
uid.
Every 250 hours —After the initial
change—change the hydraulic-system
lters and uid when using Mobil 1 15W50
uid. (Change it more often under dirty or dusty
conditions)
Every 500 hours —After the initial
change—change the hydraulic-system
lters and uid when using T oro
®
HYPR-OIL
500 uid. (Change it more often under dirty or
dusty conditions)
T o replace the hydraulic uid, the lters need to be
removed. Replace both at the same time; refer to
Hydraulic-Fluid Specications ( page 68 ) for uid
specications.
1. Park the machine on a level surface, disengage
the blade-control switch, and engage the parking
brake.
2. Shut of f the engine, remove the key , and wait
for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
3. Raise the machine and support it with jack
stands ( Figure 102 ).

4. Remove both the mower belt and the pump-drive
belt; refer to Replacing the Mower Belt ( page
63 ) and Replacing the Hydraulic Pump-Drive
Belt ( page 64 ) .
Note: This prevents uid from getting on the
belts.
5. Place a drain pan under the lter , remove the old
lter , and wipe the surface clean ( Figure 103 ).

6. Apply a thin coat of hydraulic uid to the rubber
gasket on the replacement lter ( Figure 103 ).
7. Install the replacement hydraulic lter .
8. Install the pump-drive belt and the mower belt.
9. Remove the jack stands and lower the machine
( Figure 102 ).
10. Add uid to the hydraulic reservoir and check
for any leaks.
1 1. Clean up any spilled uid.
12. Start the engine and let it run for about 2 minutes
to purge air from the system.
13. Shut of f the engine and check for leaks.
14. Check the uid level while the uid is cold.
15. If required, add uid to the hydraulic reservoir .
Note: Do not overll.
