1.Lookatthecenterofthesparkplugs(Figure34).
Ifyouseelightbrownorgrayontheinsulator,the
engineisoperatingproperly.Ablackcoatingonthe
insulatorusuallymeansthattheaircleanerisdirty.
2.Ifneeded,cleanthesparkplugwithawirebrushto
removecarbondeposits.

Important:Alwaysreplacethesparkplugs
whenithasablackcoating,wornelectrodes,
anoilylm,orcracks.
3.Checkthegapbetweenthecenterandsideelectrodes
(Figure34).Bendthesideelectrode(Figure34)if
thegapisnotcorrect.
InstallingtheSparkPlugs
1.Installthesparkplugsandthemetalwasher.Ensure
thattheairgapissetcorrectly.
2.Tightenthesparkplugsto16ft-lb(22N•m).
3.Connectthewirestothesparkplugs(Figure34).

DrainingtheFuelTank
Incertainconditions,gasolineisextremely
ammableandhighlyexplosive.Areor
explosionfromgasolinecanburnyouand
othersandcandamageproperty.
•Draingasolinefromthefueltankwhenthe
engineiscold.Dothisoutdoorsinanopen
area.Wipeupanygasolinethatspills.
•Neversmokewhendraininggasoline,and
stayawayfromanopenameorwherea
sparkmayignitethegasolinefumes.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,toensurethat
thefueltankdrainscompletely.
2.Disengagethebladecontrolswitchandmovethe
controlleverstotheneutrallockedpositionand
applytheparkingbrake.
3.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
4.Closethefuelshut-offvalvelocatedunderthefront
ofthefueltank.
5.Loosenthehoseclampatthefuellterandslideit
upthefuellineawayfromthefuellter(Figure35).
6.Pullthefuellineoffofthefuellter(Figure35).
7.Openthefuelshut-offvalve.Allowgasolinetodrain
intoagascanordrainpan.
Note:Nowisthebesttimetoinstallanewfuel
lterbecausethefueltankisempty.
ReplacingtheFuelFilter
ServiceInterval:Every200hoursoryearly,whichever
occursrst.
Neverinstalladirtylterifitisremovedfromthefuel
line.
1.Disengagethebladecontrolswitchandmovethe
controlleverstotheneutrallockedpositionand
applytheparkingbrake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
