Foraccurateresistanceand/orcontinuitychecks,electricallydisconnectthe
componentbeingtestedfromthecircuit(e.g.,unplugthekeyswitchconnector
beforedoingacontinuitycheckoftheswitch).
Note:Fortheenginecomponenttestinginformation;refertotheBriggs&
StrattonEngineRepairManual.
IMPORTANT
Whentestingtheelectricalcomponentsforcontinuitywitha
multimeter(ohmssetting),ensurethatyoudisconnectthepowerto
thecircuit.

Theelectricalsystemincludestwo(2)fusiblelinksforprotectingthemachine
circuits.Oneofthesefusiblelinksisincludedinthemainwireharnessandis
connectedtothesameterminalofthestartersolenoidasthebatterypositive
cable(mainharnessterminalJ3).Thesecondfusiblelinkisincludedinthe
enginewireharnessandconnectstotheengineattheoutputleadofthe
regulator/rectier(engineharnessterminalP19).Ifeitheroftheselinksshould
fail,currenttotheprotectedcircuitswillbeinterrupted.Refertotheelectrical
schematicsandwireharnessdrawingsinAppendixA(pageA–1)forfusiblelink
locationandadditionalcircuitinformation.
TestingaFusibleLink
1.MakesurethatkeyswitchisintheOFFposition.
2.Disconnectthenegative(-)cablefromthebatteryandthendisconnectthe
positive(+)cablefromthebattery.
3.Locatethefusiblelinkinthewireharnessanduseamultimetertomakesure
thatcontinuityexistsacrossthefusiblelink.Ifcontinuitydoesnotexistacross
thefusiblelink(opencircuit),replacethefusiblelink.
4.Aftertestingiscomplete,makesurethatallthewireharnessconnectorsare
secured.Connectthepositive(+)cabletothebatteryrstandthenconnect
thenegative(-)cabletothebattery.Coatthewireandcableconnections
atthebatteryandatthestartersolenoidwithBatteryT erminalProtector
(page5–3).
