RemovingtheFrontWheelandBrakeAssembly(continued)
6.Removethewheelhublocknutandthewheelhubassembly.Locateand
retrievethewoodruffkey.
Ifwheelhub,brakedrumordrivestudsneedreplacement,pressthedrive
studsfromthewheelhubtoseparatethehubfromthebrakedrum.
7.Disconnectthebrakerodfromthebrakeleveranddiscardthecotterpin.
8.Removethereturnspringsandremovethebrakeshoesfromthebacking
plate.
Thebrakepartsshouldbecleanandfreeofrust.Inspectthecontact
surfacesofthebrakeshoesandthebrakedrumforexcessivewear.Replace
wornordamagedpartsasnecessary.
9.Removethebrakebackingplateifnecessary.
A.Markthebrakecamandthebrakelevertoassureproperalignment
duringreassembly.
B.Removetheretainingclipfromthebrakecamandpullthebrakelever
fromthecamandmachineframe.
C.Removethebrakecamfromthebackingplate.
D.Removethecapscrews,locknutsandthebrakebackingplatefromthe
brakebracket.
InstallingtheFrontWheelandBrakeAssembly
1.Installthebrakebackingplateifnecessary.
A.Securethebackingplatetothebrakebracketwithfourcapscrewsand
locknuts.
B.Applyanti-seizelubricanttosplineareaofthebrakecamandinstallthe
brakecamintothebackingplate.
C.Slidethebrakeleverontothebrakecammakingsurethatthebrakelever
pivotisinsertedintothemachineframe.Securethebrakelevertothe
brakecamwiththeretainingclip.
2.Positionthebrakeshoesonthebackingplateandinstallthereturnsprings.
Note:Ifthebrakerodwasdisassembled,applyanti-seizelubricanttothe
threadsofthebrakerodpriortoassembly.
3.Connectthebrakerodtothebrakeleverwithanewcotterpin.
4.Makesurethewheelhubboreandthewheelmotorshaftareclean.Install
thewheelhubassemblywiththewoodruffkeyandthehublocknut.
5.Installthefrontwheelandsecureitwithfourlugnuts.Tightenthelugnuts
evenlyinacrossingpattern.
WARNING
Failuretomaintainproperwheellugnutandhublocknuttorquecan
resultinfailureorlossofwheelwhichmayresultinpersonalinjury.
6.Lowermachinetogroundandtightenhublocknutfrom339to542N∙m(250
to400ft-lb).Tightenwheellugnutsfrom95to122N∙m(70to90ft-lb).
7.Checkandadjustbrakesasnecessary;refertoTractionUnitOperator’s
Manual.
