Toro Greensmaster 3120 - Traction Circuit (Closed Loop) Component Failure

ThetractioncircuitoftheGreensmaster3120machineisaclosedloopcircuit
whichincludesthepiston(traction)pumpandtwo(2)wheelmotors.Ifa
componentinthetractioncircuitshouldfail,unwantedmaterialandcontamination
fromthedamagedcomponentwillcirculatethroughoutthetractioncircuit.This
contaminationcandamageothercomponentsinthecircuit.Thecontamination
mustberemovedassoonaspossibletopreventadditionalcomponentfailure.
Therecommendedmethodofremovingcontaminationfromthetractioncircuit
istotemporarilyinstallaT orohighowhydrauliclterintothetractioncircuit;
refertoHighFlowHydraulicFilterKit(page4–29).Ifatractioncircuitfailureis
suspect,theltershouldbeinstalledbeforeconnectinghydraulictestgauges
totesttractioncircuitcomponentsorafterreplacingafailedtractioncircuit
component.Thelterwillensurethatcontaminatesareremovedfromtheclosed
looptractioncircuitandthus,preventadditionalcomponentdamage.
OncetheTorohighowhydrauliclterkithasbeenplacedinthetractioncircuit,
raiseandsupportthemachinewiththefrontwheelsofftheground.Then,
operatethetractioncircuittoallowuidowthroughoutthecircuit.Thelterwill
removecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitduringoperation.Becausethe
Torohighowlterisbidirectional,thetractioncircuitcanbeoperatedinboththe
forwardandreversedirection.Theltershouldberemovedfromthemachine
aftercontaminationhasbeenremovedfromthetractioncircuit.RefertoFiltering
theClosed-LoopTractionCircuit(page4–76)foradditionalinformationonusing
theT orohighowhydrauliclter.
Note:Iftractioncircuitcontaminationexists,thetractionpumpcasedraincould
allowcontaminatestoenterotherhydrauliccircuitsonthemachine.
ThealternativetousingtheT orohighowhydrauliclterkitafteratractioncircuit
componentfailurewouldbetodisassemble,drainandthoroughlycleanallthe
components,thehydraulictubesandthehydraulichosesinthetractioncircuit.If
anydebrisremainsinthetractioncircuitandthemachineisoperated,thedebris
cancauseadditionalcircuitcomponentfailures.
