whilerestrictingowacrossthemotorports.Casedrainvolumeunderloadof
morethan9%oftotalmotorowindicatesthegearsandwearplatesinthemotor
haveworn.Awornmotormayby−passhydraulicuidtoitscasedraincausing
themotortobelessefcient.Eventually,enoughuidlosswillcausethecutting
unitmotortostallunderheavycuttingconditions.Continuedoperationwitha
worn,inefcientmotorcangenerateexcessiveheat,causedamagetosealsand
othercomponentsinthehydraulicsystem,andaffectqualityofcut.
Note:Thecuttingunitmotorsareconnectedinseries.Ifafaultycuttingunit
motorisnotobvious(basedonqualityofcutissues)youmayhavetotestall
threemotorsinthecircuit.Iftestingallcuttingunitmotors,startwiththerst
motorintheseries(frontleft).
SpecialEquipmentRequired:
•FlowMeterwithPressureGaugethathasatleasta45LPM(12GPM)
capacity.
•Phototach(non−contacttachometer).
1.Makesurehydraulicuidisatnormaloperatingtemperaturebyoperatingthe
machineforapproximately10minutes.Makesurethehydraulictankisfull.
2.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfacewiththecuttingunitslowered.Make
sureengineisOFFandtheparkingbrakeisdisengaged.
3.ReadandadheretotheinformationprovidedinT estingtheHydraulicSystem
(page4–35).
4.Disconnectoneendofthereturnhose(ttingattherearofthemotor)for
thecuttingunitmotorbeingtested.
5.Installthetesterinserieswiththecuttingunitmotorandthedisconnected
returnhose.Makesurethetesterisinstalledinthecorrectowdirectionand
thetesterowcontrolvalveisfullyopen.
6.Formachineswithbacklap,recordthecurrentreelspeedsettingthenset
thereelspeedtothehighestspeed(fullyopen).Thebacklapknobonthe
mowermanifoldisintheMOWposition.
7.Disconnectthemotorcasedrain(smallhose)atthebulkheadttingforthe
motortobetested;refertoFigure34.

8.Twopeoplearerequiredtocompletethefollowingsteps.Onepersonshould
sitintheoperator’sseatandoperatethemachinewhileanotherperson
readsthetesterandmeasuresthemotorcasedrainvolume.
9.SetthefunctioncontrollevertoNEUTRALandstarttheengine.Movethrottle
tofullspeed(2850±50RPM).
10.Verifyandrecordenginespeedwithaphototach.
CAUTION
Useextremecautionwhenperformingthistest.Thecuttingunit
reelswillberotatingduringthetest.
