Useonlyelectrolyte(1.265specicgravity)toll
batteryinitially.
1.Removethewingnuts,washers,andbattery
clampandliftoutthebattery.
Important:Donotaddelectrolytewhilethe
batteryisinthemachine.Youcouldspillit,
causingcorrosion.
2.Cleanthetopofthebatteryandremovethevent
caps(Figure3).

platesarecoveredwithabout6mm(1/4inch)
ofuid(Figure4).

4.Allowapproximately20to30minutesforthe
electrolytetosoakintotheplates.Fillas
necessarytobringtheelectrolytetowithinabout
6mm(1/4inch)ofthebottomofthellwell
(Figure4).
5.Connecta2to4Abatterychargertothebattery
posts.Chargethebatteryforatleast2hoursat
4Aorforatleast4hoursat2Auntilthespecic
gravityis1.250orhigherandthetemperatureis
atleast16°C(60°F)withallcellsgassingfreely.
WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgasses
thatcanexplode.
Neversmokenearthebatteryandkeep
sparksandamesawayfromthebattery.
Important:Ifyoudonotchargethebattery
foratleastthetimespeciedabove,youmay
reducethelifeofthebattery.
6.Whenthebatteryischarged,disconnectthe
chargerfromtheelectricaloutletandbattery
posts.
Note:Afterthebatteryhasbeenactivated,
addonlydistilledwatertoreplacenormalloss,
althoughmaintenance-freebatteriesshouldnot
requirewaterundernormaloperatingconditions.
Important:Failuretocorrectlyactivatethe
batterymayresultinbatterygassingand/or
prematurebatteryfailure.
7.Installtheventcaps.
