Troubleshooting
CAUTION
Remove all jewelry, especially rings and
watches, before doing any electrical testing or
troubleshooting.
For effective troubleshooting and repairs, there must be
a good understanding of the electrical circuits and com-
ponents used on this machine (see Wiring Schematic
and Wire Harness Drawing sections of this chapter).
The interlock switches must not be by- passed, they
must be connected for proper electrical troubleshooting
and safety.
NOTE: For engine component testing information, re-
fer to the Subaru Service Manual.
Starting Problems
Problem Possible Causes Correction
Engine will not start. ON/OFF switch is in the OFF
position.
Ignition spark plug wire is not
connected to spark plug.
Traction lever is not in the
NEUTRAL position.
An engine problem exists that
prevents the engine from running.
ON/OFF switch is faulty.
Electrical wires are loose or
damaged.
Traction switch is not adjusted or is
faulty.
Interlock module is faulty.
Turn switch to ON.
Connect spark plug wire to spark
plug.
Placetractionleverinthe
NEUTRAL position.
Repair engine.
Replace ON/OFF switch.
Check electrical connections.
Repair wiring as needed.
Adjust or replace traction switch.
Replace interlock module.
Engine will start, but will not
continue to run.
Parking brake latch is engaged.
Electrical wires are loose or
damaged.
Traction switch is not adjusted or is
faulty.
An engine problem exists that
causestheenginetostop.
Interlock module is faulty.
Disengage parking brake latch.
Check electrical connections.
Repair wiring as needed.
Adjust or replace traction switch.
Repair engine.
Replace interlock module.
