Toro Electronic Controller (TEC)
Greensmaster TriFlex machines use a Toro Electronic
Controller (TEC) to monitor the condition of various
switches(inputs)andthendirectelectricalpoweroutput
to allow certain machine functions. The controller is at-
tachedtotheframeundertherightsidecovernexttoop-
erator seat (Fig. 56).
Inputs from the ignition, neutral, parking brake, seat,
joystick, mow, backlap and engine oil pressure are all
monitored by the TEC controller. TEC inputs on Green-
smaster 3300 machines also include the leak detector
sensor. TEC inputs on Greensmaster 3400 machines
also include the alternator, engine temperature sender
and hydraulic temperature sender.
On all TriFlex Greensmaster machines, TEC controller
current output to the mow circuit hydraulic valve sole-
noid coil (PRV), lift circuit hydraulic valve solenoid coils
(S1, S2, S3 and S4) and console diagnostic light are
controlled based on the inputs received by the control-
ler. TECoutputs on Greensmaster 3300machinesalso
include the start solenoid, fuel solenoid, charge circuit
relay, killrelayand Turf Defender
TM
Leak Detectorindi-
cator light and alarm. TEC outputs on Greensmaster
3400 machines also include the start relay, glow relay,
fuelpump,enginerunsolenoid(holdcoil),fanrelay,con-
sole indicator lights.
The diagram in Figure 57 depicts the connection termi-
nal functions of the TEC controller. A fifty (50) pin wire
harness connector attaches to the controller. The con-
nectorpins arelistedinthe diagram.Notethatelectrical

connectors each protected with a 7.5 amp fuse.
The handheld Diagnostic Display (see Special Tools in
this chapter) with the correct Display overlay should be
usedwhencheckinginputsandoutputsofthecontroller
used on your Greensmaster (see Diagnostic Display in
the Troubleshooting section of this chapter). If the con-
troller detects a malfunction in any of the c ontrolled cir-
cuits,thediagnosticlightcanbeusedtoidentifythefault
(see Diagnostic Light in the Troubleshooting s ection of
this chapter).
Because ofthesolid state circuitry builtintothe control-
ler, there is no method to test it directly. The controller
may be damaged if an attempt is made to test it with an
electrical test device, such as a digital multimeter.
IMPORTANT: Before performingany weldingon the
machine, disconnect both positive and negative
battery cablesfrom thebattery, disconnect the wire
harnessconnector fromtheTEC controlleranddis-
connect the terminal connector from the alternator.
This will prevent damage to the electricalsystem of
your Greensmaster.
