B. Use 3/8” drive breaker bar in tensioner arm
square drive hole to hold tensioner arm in place so
that clevis pin can be removed.
C. Remove clevis pin and allow counterbalance
springs to relax.
2. Disassemble suspension assembly as required us-
ing Figure 21 as a guide.
NOTE: Medium strength Loctite #609 retaining com-
pound is applied to ball joint housing during assembly.
Localized heat around the ball joint housing w ill allow
easier ball joint removal from A--arm.
Assembly (Fig. 21)
1. Install all removed suspension assembly compo-
nents using Figure 21 as a guide.
A. Ifanyballjoint(item3)wasremovedfromA--arm,
clean ball joint housing and A-- arm bore with Loctite
cleaningsolvent(or equivalent)and allowtodry.Ap-
ply Loctite #609 retaining compound (or equivalent)
to balljoint housing beforeinserting ball jointinto A--
arm.
B. If any clamp (item 9) was removed, make sure
thatraisedbossinc lampboreispositionedingroove
of ball joint stud before securing clamp.
C. Ifliftplate(item12)wasremovedfromA--arm,se-
cure lift plate with two (2) flange head screws (item
13). Torque screws from 67 to 83 ft--lb (91 to 112
N--m).
CAUTION
Be careful when assembling the suspension
counterbalance system. The counterbalance
spring is under heavy load and may cause per-
sonal injury.
D. Install clevis pin (item 26) into upper holes in
counterbalancemount(item23)andholeintension-
er arm (item 16). Tensioner arm can be rotated with
breakerbar (3/8”squaredrive) toalignholes.Figure
22 shows correct location of clevis pin.
E. If stabilizer springs were removed from suspen-
sion assembly, move and support suspension as-
sembly so that upper a--arm has stabilizer spring
attachment hole positioned 5.710” (145.0 mm) from
rearofpivotmount.Then,adjustlocationofspringso
the center of the spring end is 8.760” (222.5 mm)
from rear of pivot mount. Figure 24 shows dimen-
sions for correct stabilizer spring adjustment.
