7.Removethe4bolts(item10inFigure227)and4lockwashersthatattach
thegearboxassemblytothegearboxbrackets.
8.Removethe3carriagescrews,3angenuts,3washers,and3mountsthat
attachtheleftandrightgearboxbrackets(items3and9inFigure227)tothe
deckmountingplate,andremovethebracketsfromthedeck.
9.Removethegearboxassembly(withthedrivepulleyattached)fromthedeck.
Drainthelubricantfromthegearbox.
10.Removethe2setscrewsthatattachthetaperlockbushingtothedrive
pulleyonthegearboxshaft.
11.Install1oftheremovedsetscrewsintothethreadedholeofthebushing.
Tightenthesetscrewtoloosenthebushingfromthepulleyhub(Figure228).
12.Slidethebushingandpulleyfromthegearboxshaft.
13.Locateandretrievethewoodruffkey.
14.Ifnecessary,removeandreplacetheoilsealsandoilcapsinthegearbox
(Figure229).
Note:Ifinternalgearboxwearordamageoccurs,gearboxreplacementis
necessary.Theinternalgearboxcomponentsarenotavailable.
InstallingtheGearbox
1.Ifoilsealsoroilcapswereremovedfromthegearbox,installnewsealsand
capstothegearbox.
2.Cleanthegearboxoutputshaft,pulleyID(innerdiameter),andtaperlock
bushing.
3.Positionthewoodruffkey,pulley,andthenthetaperlockbushingtothe
gearboxoutputshaft.Slidethebushingtotheshoulderontheshaft.Align
thethreadedholesofthepulleywiththenon-threadedholesofthebushing.
4.Applyoiltothethreadsofthesetscrewsandinstallthescrewsintothe
threadsofthepulley(Figure228).Alternatelyandevenlytorquetheset
screwsto20to28N∙m(180to250in-lb).
5.Filltheallenrecessinthesetscrewsandbushingthreadswithgreaseto
preventdirtfrompackingintothecrevices.
6.Positionthegearboxassembly(withthedrivepulleyattached)tothedeck.
7.Positionandattachtheleftandrightgearboxbrackets(items3and9in
Figure227)tothedeckmountingplatewiththe3carriagescrews,3ange
nuts,3washers,and3mounts.
8.Securethegearboxassemblytothegearboxbracketswiththe4bolts(item
10inFigure227)and4lockwashers.
9.ConnectthePTOdriveshafttothegearbox;refertoInstallingthePTO
Driveshaft(page6–26).
10.Installthedrivebeltanddeckcoverstothecuttingdeck.
11.Torquethepluginthegearboxto19.8N∙m(175in-lb).Fillthegearboxwith
approximately355ml(12oz)ofSAE80W90gearlubricant.
