Checkbeltsforcracks,frayededges,burnmarks,orany
otherdamage.Replacedamagedbelts.
ReplacingtheMowerBelt
Squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,bladesslippingwhen
cuttinggrass,frayedbeltedges,burnmarksandcracks
aresignsofawornmowerbelt.Replacethemowerbelt
ifanyoftheseconditionsareevident.
Important:Thefastenersonthemowerdeck
coversofthismachinearedesignedtoremainon
thecoverafterremoval.Loosenallofthefasteners
oneachcoverafewturnssothatthecoverisloose
butstillattached,thengobackandloosenthem
untilthecovercomesfree.Thiswillpreventyou
fromaccidentallystrippingtheboltsfreeofthe
retainers.
1.DisengagethePTO,movethemotioncontrollevers
totheneutrallockedpositionandsettheparking
brake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Removethebeltcoversandtheboltsattachedto
them(
Figure67).
4.Removethespringandbeltguidefromtheidlerarm.
5.Removetheexistingbeltifneeded.
6.Installthenewbeltaroundthemowerpulleysand
thegearboxpulleyundertheengine(
Figure68).
7.Installthebeltguideonthespringloadedidlerata
45degreeangleasshowninFigure68.Torquethe
boltto27to33ft-lb(37to45N-m).
8.Installtheidlerspringtothetwoposts(
Figure68).
9.Installthebeltcoversbyslidingthecoverinto
thetab,tightenthebolts,andclosethelatches
(Figure67).

theboltsfreeoftheretainers.
