Operating the Power Take
Off (PTO)
The power take off (PTO) svdtch starts and stops
the mower blades and any powered attachments.
Engaging the PTO
1. If the engine is cold, allow the engine to warm
up 5 to 10 minutes before engaging the PTO.
2. While seated in the seat, release the pressure on
the traction control levers and place in neutral.
3. Place the throttle in the fast position.
Note: Engaging the PTO with the throttle
at the half or less position will cause excessive
wear to the drive belts.
4. Pull out on the power take off (PTO) svdtch to
engage it (Figure 15).

Disengaging the PTO
To disengage, push the PTO svdtch to the off
position (Figure 15).
The Safety Interlock System
If safety interlock switches are disconnected
or damaged the machine could operate
unexpectedly causing personal injury.
Do not tamper with the interlock
switches.
Check the operation of the interlock
switches daily and replace any damaged
switches before operating the machine.
Understanding the Safety Interlock
System
The safeDTinterlock system is designed to prevent
the engine from starting unless:
You are sitting on the seat.
The paring brake is engaged.
The power take off (PTO) is disengaged.
The motion control levers are in the neutral
locked position
The safety interlock system also is designed to stop
the engine when the traction controls are moved
from the locked position with the paring brake
engaged or if you rise from the seat when the PTO
is engaged.
Testing the Safety Interlock System
Test the safety interlock system before you use
the machine each time. If the safety system
does not operate as described belox_, have an
Authorized Service Dealer repair the safety system
immediatel 7
1. Sitting on the seat, engage the paring brake
and move the PTO to on. Try starting the
engine; the engine should not crank.
2. Sitting on the seat, engage the paring brake
and move the PTO to off. Move either motion
control lever (out of neutral locked position).
Try starting the engine; the engine should not
crank. Repeat for other control lever.
3. Sitting on the seat, engage the paring brake,
move the PTO switch to off and move the
motion control levers to neutral lock position.
Now start the engine. While the engine is
running, release the paring brake, engage the
