Function Description:

The Totem CS-240/260 is a folding electric bicycle designed for commuting and general use. It features an electric motor that provides pedal assist (PAS) and a throttle mode, allowing riders to choose between manual pedaling, assisted pedaling, or full electric power. The folding design enhances portability and storage convenience.

Important Technical Specifications:

Battery: 36V lithium-ion battery.
Charging Time: Typically 6 hours for a full charge (from zero to 100%).
Tire Pressure: Must be fully inflated to 60 PSI before riding.
PAS Levels: 0-5 (0 disables assist, 1-5 provide increasing levels of motor thrust).
Throttle: Thumb paddle style, functions as an "on and off" control for full assist.
Display: Digital display on the left handlebar showing battery charge, current speed, PAS level, and cycling between odometer and trip distance every 5 seconds.
Frame: Folding design with quick-release mechanisms for handlebars and seat post.

Usage Features:

Assembly: The CS-260 ships fully assembled except for pedals, while the CS-240 ships with pedals installed. Pedal installation for the CS-260 requires a 15mm wrench, with specific threading directions for right (clockwise) and left (counterclockwise) pedals. Pedals can fold for storage/transport.
Handlebar Setup: Handlebars are raised and locked into position using a lever. Height and rotation can be adjusted by opening a latch, rotating the bar (reflector facing forward, brake levers comfortable), and then closing the latch. A tension knob underneath the latch allows for tightening if the bar rotates.
Seat Adjustment: The seat height is adjusted using a latch located under the seat. The seat post should be aligned with the frame and securely locked. A tension knob allows for tightening if the seat post is not immobile.
Recommended Height Settings:
- Stand Over Height: Ensure there is clearance between the crotch and the frame when straddling the bike with shoes on and bouncing on heels. If the crotch touches the frame, the bike is too large.
- Saddle (Seat) Vertical Adjustment: With one heel on a pedal in its lowest position, the leg should be slightly bent. If the leg is nearly straight, lower the saddle; if bent more than 30 degrees, raise it. Always ensure the seat is set between Minimum Insertion and Maximum Extension marks.
- Saddle Angle Adjustment: Can be tilted forward or backward using a size 6 metric Allen (hex) key on the underside of the saddle, though usually not required.
- Security: After any saddle adjustment, ensure it is properly and securely tightened to prevent movement and loss of control.
Digital Display Operation:
- Power On: Turn on the battery switch on the front left side of the frame (line for "on"). Then, press the power button on the top left corner of the display module.
- Backlight: Press and hold the DOWN (-) button for 3 seconds to turn the backlight on or off.
- Pedal Assist (PAS): Use UP (+) and DOWN (-) buttons to change PAS levels (0-5). Level 0 disables PAS and throttle. Levels 1-5 provide increasing motor thrust.
- Auto (Throttle) Mode: Press the thumb paddle forward after starting to pedal. The bike must be moving forward for the throttle to engage. Releasing the throttle or using brakes disengages the motor. PAS level must be 1-5 for throttle mode to work.
Battery Management:
- Safety: Handle and store batteries carefully. Avoid temperatures below 15°F and above 140°F. Prevent mechanical stress and moisture contact. Remove battery before washing the bike. Never open the battery's housing.
- Charging: Charge in a dry, room-temperature location. Best practice is to fully discharge then fully charge. Charger LED is red during charging, green when full. Remove charger once full. Do not leave unattended for long periods.
- Range: Varies based on road surface, terrain, temperature, wind, rider weight, riding posture, tire tread, gear shifting, and PAS level. Average range is 40 miles or more with pedal assist.
- Lifespan: Lithium-ion batteries degrade over time, even with disuse. Initial 500 charges may yield 40 miles, but capacity gradually decreases to 80%, then 70%, etc.
- Storage & Transport: Store in dry, well-ventilated areas with smoke detectors, away from heat or flammable materials, and direct sunlight. For long-term storage, maintain a 50% charge. Remove battery for transport.
- Replacement: Additional batteries and chargers are available at www.totemusa.com. Dispose of old batteries at a recycling facility.

Maintenance Features:

General Maintenance: Proper maintenance extends bike life and prevents mechanical/electrical issues.
Useful Tools: Metric Allen wrench set, multi-tool, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, bike lubricant, bike chain degreaser, small brushes, bike tire pump.
Pre-Ride Checks:
- Check tire pressure (60 PSI).
- Inspect tire tread for debris.
- Ensure quick-release points on handlebars and seat post are tight.
- Verify front and rear brakes fully engage.
- Visually inspect and lubricate the chain (do not use WD-40).
Monthly Maintenance:
- Wipe down frame to remove dirt/debris.
- Inspect for loose screws, cracks, or dents.
- Clean and re-grease chain, chainring, and rear sprockets.
- Check spokes for looseness.
- Rotate wheels off the ground to check for true rotation (no wobbling).
- Tighten all connection points with wrenches and screwdrivers.
Annual Maintenance:
- Check for corrosion and rust.
- Inspect and replace brake system cables, pads, or discs as needed.
- Inspect and replace tire tread for uneven wear or dry-rotting.
- Clean, degrease, and apply fresh lubricant to chain and sprockets.
- Remove rust/corrosion from metal parts with a wire brush.
- Check and re-grease pedal crank bearings.
- Check all connection points and accessories for wear.
