sult from battery explosion, acid burns,
electr ical bur ns, or damaged el ectroni c
components, these i nstructi ons must be
foll owed precisely.
If you are unsure about how to follow this
procedur e, we st rongly r ecommend t hat
you seek t he hel p of a competent me-
chanic or t owing serv ice.
CAUTION
D Batter ies contai n sulf uric acid
which is poisonous and corr osive.
Wear protect ive safet y glasses when
jump starting, and avoid spilling
acid on your skin, clot hing, or ve-
hicle.
D If you shoul d accidental ly get acid
on your self or in your eyes, r emove
any contami nated cl othing and flush
the affect ed area with water i mme-
diately. Then get immediat e medical
attent ion. If possibl e, continue to
apply water wit h a sponge or clot h
while en route to the medical off ice.
D The gas normally produced by a
battery will explode if a flame or
spark is brought near. Use only
standardi zed jumper cables and do
not smoke or l ight a match whil e
jump starti ng.
NOTICE
The batter y used for boosti ng must
be 12 V. Do not jump star t unless you
are sure that the boost er batter y is
correct .
JUMP STARTI NG PROCEDURE
1. If t he boos ter batter y is ins tall ed in
another vehicl e, make sure t he vehi cles
are not touchi ng. Turn off al l unneces-
sary l ights and acc essor ies.
When boosti ng, use t he bat tery of
matchi ng or higher quali ty. Any other
battery may be difficult to jump start
with.
If jump st arti ng is diffi cult , c harge the
battery for sever al minutes.
2. If the engine in the vehi cle with the
booster batt ery is not runni ng, s tart it
and let it run for a f ew mi nutes. During
jump s tarti ng run the engine at about
2000 rpm wit h the accel erator pedal
lightl y depres sed.
