Chapter 13
Changing Chiller Plant Status
Information
The Chiller Plant Control program is used to coordinate chillers and pro-
vide system chilled water control. The program performs four main func-
tions:
• It controls leaving water temperature by adding chillers as the build-
ing cooling load increases. It also calculates the chilled water setpoint
sent for each chiller.
• It recovers from failures by starting the next chiller in the sequence
immediately after a chiller is marked failed.
• It optimizes energy use by subtracting chillers when the cooling load
does not require them to be enabled. It also matches chillers to the
load.
• It equalizes runtime and wear on each chiller by using different rota-
tion schemes. It also provides a more reliable chiller plant by periodi-
cally exercising all of its components.
This chapter describes how to use the Chiller Plant Control Status screen
to perform these functions. This screen allows quick access to valuable
chiller plant information (such as when the next chiller add or subtract
will occur) and allows you to perform the following tasks:
• Reset a chiller failure
• Force a chiller to be added
• Force a chiller to be subtracted
• Make a chiller unavailable
• Make a chiller available
• Force the chiller sequence to be rotated
