Chapter 6 - VLAN Management
6-1 VLAN Configuration
This page lets you assign a specific VLAN for management purpose. The management
VLAN is used to establish an IP connection to the switch from a workstation connected
to a port in the VLAN. This connection supports a VSM, SNMP, and Telnet session. By
default, the active management VLAN is VLAN 1, but you can designate any VLAN as the
management VLAN using the Management VLAN window. Only one management VLAN
can be active at a time.
When you specify a new management VLAN, your HTTP connection to the old
management VLAN is lost. For this reason, you should have a connection between your
management station and a port in the new management VLAN or connect to the new
management VLAN through a multi-VLAN route.
Web Interface
To configure VLAN membership configuration in the web interface:
1. Click VLAN Management and VLAN Configuration.
2. Configure for existing VLANs, Ethertype, port types, ingress/egress, and allowed VLANs.
3. Click the Apply button.

Parameter descriptions:
Global VLAN Configuration
Allowed Access VLANs: This field shows the VLANs that are created on the switch. By default, only
VLAN 1 exists. More VLANs may be created by using a list syntax where the individual elements are
separated by commas. Ranges are specified with a dash separating the lower and upper bound.
The following example will create VLANs 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 200, and 300: 1,10-13,200,300. Spaces are
allowed in between the delimiters.
Ethertype for Custom S-ports: This field specifies the Ethertype/TPID (specified in hexadecimal) used
for Custom S-ports. The setting is in force for all ports whose Port Type is set to S-Custom-Port.
Port VLAN Configuration
Port: This is the logical port number of this row.
Mode: The port mode (default is Access) determines the fundamental behavior of the port in question.
A port can be in one of three modes as described below. Whenever a particular mode is selected, the
remaining fields in that row will be either grayed out or made changeable depending on the mode in
