Overview

This document provides assembly instructions and important safety information for the Torsten Cot Conversion Rail, designed for use with the Torsten Cot.

Function Description:

The Torsten Cot Conversion Rail is an accessory designed to convert the Torsten Cot into a toddler bed. This conversion allows the product to be used for a longer period, specifically from 18 months to 4 years of age. The conversion rail replaces one of the cot sides, creating an open side that allows a child to get in and out of bed independently while still providing a protective rail on the other side.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Mattress Compatibility:
    • The cot bed is designed to be used with a mattress measuring 1200mm long by 600mm wide and 100mm tall.
    • The minimum size of the mattress to be used with the cot is 1170mm long by 570mm wide.
    • There shall be no gap more than 30 mm between the mattress and the sides and ends in any position of the mattress.
    • The thickness of the mattress shall be such that the internal height (surface of the mattress to the upper edge of the cot frame) is at least 500 mm in the lowest position of the cot base and at least 200mm in the highest position of the cot base. A mark on the inside of the cot indicates the maximum mattress thickness.
  • Age Range for Toddler Bed: 18 months to 4 years.
  • Safety Regulations: The Cot bed is made to conform to safety regulations: BS EN 716-1&2: 2017.

Usage Features:

  • Conversion Capability: Transforms the Torsten Cot into a toddler bed, extending its usability as the child grows.
  • Independent Access: The conversion rail facilitates a child's ability to climb in and out of bed on their own.
  • Safety First Design:
    • The lowest bed base position is the safest for a cot. The mattress base should be adjusted to the lowest position before the child can sit up to prevent falls.
    • The cot should no longer be used by the child when they are able to climb out of it, to prevent injury from falls.
    • All assembly fittings should always be tightened properly and checked regularly.
  • Assembly: Assembly is recommended with two people for ease.
  • Dismantling: The bed is designed to be dismantled for transportation and storage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The furniture can be cleaned by wiping down with a damp cloth and dried with a soft, clean cloth.
  • Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Do not use abrasives, bleach, alcohol, or ammonia-based household polishes, as these can damage the finish.
  • Regular Checks: All assembly fittings should be checked regularly and retightened as necessary to ensure continued safety and stability.

Important Safety Warnings and Recommendations:

  • Professional Assembly: Furniture can be dangerous if incorrectly installed; assembly should be carried out by a competent person.
  • Detailed Instructions: Follow instructions in detail to ensure safety features are not compromised.
  • Handling: Take care when handling or moving furniture to avoid damage.
  • Children During Assembly: Keep children away during assembly as the pack contains small parts which may present a choking hazard.
  • Packaging: Remove all parts from packaging and check against the parts list. Do not discard any packaging until all parts and the fittings pack are accounted for.
  • Heat Sources: Do not place the child's bed near heat sources, windows, or other furniture. Be aware of the risk of open fire and other sources of strong heat (electric bar fires, gas fires, etc.) in the near vicinity of the cot.
  • Damaged Parts: Do not use the cot if any part is broken, torn, or missing. Use only spare parts approved by the manufacturer.
  • Suffocation/Strangulation Hazards: Do not leave anything in the cot or place the cot close to another product which could provide a foothold or present a danger of suffocation or strangulation (e.g., strings, blind/curtain cords).
  • Mattress Quantity: Do not use more than one mattress in the cot.
  • Toddler Bed Placement: Children are likely to play, bounce, jump, and climb on beds. Therefore, the child's bed should not be placed too close to other furniture or windows, blind cords, curtain pulls, or other strings or cords. It should be placed either tight to any wall or have a gap of 300 mm between the wall and the side of the bed.
