Usage Features:
Installation:
- Caster Installation: Casters (two without brakes for the rear, two with brakes for the front) are screwed into the unit using a caster wrench. Caster shims can be used to level the cabinet.
- Drain Pan Installation (for specific models: MST-28, MST-28-12, MUR-28, MUF-28): In damp conditions, the drain pan may overflow. It should be removed, emptied, and reinstalled as shown in the manual.
- Placement:
- Good Air Circulation: Ensure ample air space, especially at the rear of the unit (at least 5 inches from the wall) to prevent obstruction of airflow.
- Strong Ground: The installation location must have a floor strong enough to support the unit's total weight and contents.
- Avoid Heat Sources: Do not place the unit near hot corners or stoves, as high ambient temperatures reduce cooling efficiency.
- Indoor Usage Only: The unit is designed for indoor installation to prevent exposure to rain.
- Stabilizing & Leveling: The unit must be installed in a stable, level condition from front to back and side to side, with the front wheels locked during use.
- Dedicated Outlet: The unit should be connected to a dedicated electrical outlet.
Basic Operation (Refrigerators):
- Thermostat Control: The controller (thermostat) is located on the right inside of the unit.
- Temperature Setting: The factory setting is "Normal." Turning the knob towards "Cool" results in a higher temperature, while turning it towards "Cold" results in a lower temperature.
- Compressor Control: The thermostat controls the compressor's on/off cycle by sensing the internal temperature.
- OFF Position: If the thermostat knob is set to "OFF," the compressor and condenser fan motor will not run.
- Unplugging: The unit should be unplugged if not in use for an extended period.
Reversible Door Instructions (for MUR-28 / MUF-28 only, and MST-28, MUR-28, MUF-28 for changing reversible door):
The manual provides detailed steps with images for reversing the door, involving the removal and reinstallation of hinges, spring bar, and door bushings. This process requires unscrewing and re-screwing various components to change the door's opening direction.
Troubleshooting:
The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues:
- Freezing/Melting Food: Adjust temperature dial to warmer/colder setting.
- Unit Not Refrigerating at All: Check power cord connection.
- Unit Not Refrigerating Well: Move unit away from sunlight/heater, check stored food, ensure door is not opened too frequently/left open too long, verify temp control dial position, clean condenser.
- Loud Noise: Check floor stability, ensure leveling feet are set correctly, verify unit is not too close to the wall, adjust tray position.
- Dew-drops on Exterior: Wipe with a dry cloth (caused by high-moisture air).
- Dew-drops on Interior: Keep door closed to remove dewdrops (caused by frequent door opening or damp food).
- Door Not Closing Tightly: Level the unit, reposition the gasket.
- Normal Sounds: Water-flowing sound when compressor stops (refrigerant flow) and compressor not running during defrost cycle are normal.
Maintenance Features:
Cleaning:
- Before Cleaning: Always turn off the unit at the power switch.
- Interior and Exterior: Clean with warm water and soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners to prevent scratching.
- Compressor and Condenser: Keep the condenser coil free of dust to maintain cooling efficiency.
- Gasket: Clean the door gasket frequently to ensure proper sealing.
- After Cleaning: Plug the unit back in and turn on the power switch, then verify proper operation.
Caution:
- Power Cord: Ensure the power cord is connected to the proper voltage. A protected circuit with correct voltage and amperage is required. Turn off the power switch before any maintenance or cleaning. Compressor warranties are void if burnout occurs due to low voltage.
- Re-starting: If disconnected, wait 5 minutes before re-starting the unit.
Stainless Steel Equipment Care and Cleaning:
- Avoid: Steel wool, abrasive, or chlorine-based products.
- Opponents: Scratches (from wire brushes, scrapers, steel pads), deposits (from hard water, especially when heated, or food prep), and chlorides (from table salt, food, water, and many household/industrial cleaners) can damage the passive layer and cause corrosion.
- 8 Steps to Prevent Rust:
- Correct Cleaning Tools: Use non-abrasive tools like soft cloths and plastic scouring pads.
- Clean Along Polish Lines: Scrub parallel to visible "grain" lines on stainless steel. Use a plastic scouring pad or soft cloth if grain is not visible.
- Alkaline/Non-Chloride Cleaners: Use cleaners that are alkaline, alkaline chlorinated, or non-chloride containing. Avoid quaternary salts.
- Water Treatment: Soften hard water if possible and consider filters to remove corrosive elements.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Clean frequently with recommended strength cleaners to prevent hard stain build-up. Avoid heating cleaners containing chlorides.
- Rinse: Rinse and wipe dry immediately after using chlorinated cleaners. Allow to air dry to help maintain the passivity film.
- Avoid Hydrochloric Acid: Never use muriatic acid on stainless steel.
- Regularly Restore/Passivate: Use recommended cleaners for specific situations:
- Routine cleaning: Soap, ammonia, detergent medallion with cloth/sponge.
- Fingerprints/smears: Arcal 20, Lac-O-Nu Ecoshine.
- Stubborn stains/discoloring: Cameo, Talc, Zud First Impression (rub in direction of polished lines).
- Grease/fatty acids/blood/burnt-on foods: Easy-off, De-Grease it oven aid, or good commercial detergent.
- Restoration/passivation: Benefit, Super Sheen, Sheila Shine.
- Three-Year Warranty: Covers cabinet and all parts for defects in material or workmanship under normal use and service for three years from original installation or 39 months from shipment, whichever comes first. Turbo Air will repair or replace defective parts.
- Additional Two-Year Compressor Warranty: Extends compressor coverage for an additional two years (total of five years from original installation or five years and three months from shipment). This applies only to hermetically sealed compressor parts, not other components.
- 134A(404A) Compressor Warranty Conditions:
- System contains R134A/R404A refrigerant and polyol ester lubricant. If lubricant is exposed to ambient conditions, it must be removed and replaced with new, approved lubricants (ICI-Emkarate RL 184, Emery-2927-A, Mobile Artic 22A). Failure to comply voids the warranty.
- Dryer replacement is critical when the system is opened for servicing; use XH-9 desiccant.
- Achieve micron-level vacuums (500 microns or lower) to ensure low moisture.
- What is NOT Covered:
- Warranty is non-transferable.
- No consequential damages (economic loss, profit loss, food/product spoilage).
- Damage from alteration, neglect, abuse, misuse, accident, transit, installation, fire, flood, or acts of God.
- No implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose beyond the stated warranties.
- Transportation costs (Turbo Air covers freight collect for parts only with prior approval).
- Warranty claims must include model number, serial number, proof of purchase, installation date, and defect information.
- Warranty does not apply to products sold or used outside the U.S. and Canada.
- New Extended Warranty policy applies to units sold by Turbo Air starting Dec. 1, 2012.
