PROBLEM
Water in crankcase (cont.)
Oil leaking from underside
of crankcase
Oil leakage from drain plug
Loud knocking noise in
pump
Frequent or premature
failure of the cups
Pump will not run when
adequate water is available
in tank and console toggle
switch is on
Pump continues to run for
few seconds after water
tank is depleted
CAUSE
Leakage of inlet manifold
seals and/or piston rod
sleeve o’rings
Worn crankcase seals
Loose drain plug or worn
drain plug o’ring
Clutch assembly loose
Broken or worn bearing
Scored rods or sleeves
Damaged or worn cylinders
Running pump dry
Defective console toggle
switch
Water system fuse blown
Clutch not engaging
Debris collected in suction
manifold/drain assembly
Electrical problem
Normal condition, result of
slosh fi lter circuit in liquid
level control module
SOLUTION
Replace seals and/or
sleeve o’rings.
Replace seals.
Tighten drain plug or
replace o’ring.
Tighten.
Replace bearings.
Replace rods and sleeves.
Replace cylinders.
DO NOT run pump without
water. Check for suction
leaks in the water suction
line.
Replace switch.
Replace fuse and trouble
shoot for electrical problem.
Check electrical circuit and
pump ground.
Open drain valve and fl ush
thoroughly if necessary,
partially disassemble and
fl ush mud, wet sand, etc.
Check liquid level sensor
relays at control console.
None required.
AIR PURGE NOTICE
Sweeper dust control systems with liquid level sensor probe will experience pump failure
due to piston cup wear if air purge valve is left in purge position when water system pump is
turned on with water in tank(s). The liquid level sensor will allow the pump to run, but pump
draws air through purge valve causing pump piston cups to fail due to friction. Dry run time
of piston cups is approximately fi ve minutes.
Always check purge valve position before running the system.
