To play an E7 chord, place your ring finger on the 2nd fret of the first
or bottom string, your middle finger on the 2nd fret of the third string,
and your index finger on the 1st fret of the fourth or top string. Let the
second-string ring completely open.

More Advanced Strumming Patterns
I'll admit down strums are a little bit boring, but they are extremely
flexible, and if you can do this well with good timing and consistency
(that's key, remember) you can easily add some interesting elements
into your strumming pattern. Let's take a look.
Strumming Pattern #2: Down, Down,Up, Down,
Down, Up
For this pattern, we're still going to strum to a count of four. However,
this time we're going to add an up strum between beats 2 and 3 and
beats 4 and 1. This gives us a strumming pattern of down, down, up,
down, down, up.
