command mode A sensor can be in command mode or data mode. In command mode,
data flow from the sensor is interrupted, and the user can communicate
with the sensor by sending commands with the IO Terminal
application.
configuration See system configuration.
current data Weather data measured by sensors and shown in AviMet applications, in
contrast to stored data.
data collector A generic term referring to devices, such as automatic weather stations,
that collect sensor data, calculate values, and send them to the CDU.
data item An individual data value contained in a ROA object.
data mode A sensor can be in data mode or command mode. In data mode, the
sensor transmits data to AviMet applications.
data status The source and quality of weather data, indicated in the Weather View
application by colors. Data status in Weather View can be Invalid,
Missing, Normal, and Old. For other than LLWAS wind data, also
Backup and Manual status is possible.
degraded LLWAS
processing status
A data status displayed in the LLWAS screen in the Weather View
application. The status indicates that at least one wind measurement is
missing, but the LLWAS data is still fairly accurate. See also normal
LLWAS processing status and support LLWAS processing status.
Diagnostics An AviMet application for monitoring system status and events.
duplicated system An AviMet system that has two CDUs: one active and one passive (hot
standby). Other system types are single-CDU system with or without
workstations.
end-users Observers, forecasters, and air traffic controllers that use the AviMet
system for their daily observing and reporting tasks.

applications
Applications used by end-users for their daily tasks; typically, Weather
View, Graphical Windshear Display, and ASCII Log View.
Depending on the organization of your airport, the system maintenance
application Diagnostics can also be an end-user application.
event A system event notified by the AviMet system with a message in the
Diagnostics application. An event can be, for example, a problem in the
system or a notice of a windshear alert.
field device All devices that are located in the field for measuring and logging
meteorological data and transmitting it to the CDU. In AviMet systems,
field devices include sensors and data collectors.
