Overview

The Verdeat M/L is a smart indoor gardening system designed for growing microgreens, seeds, and potted plants. It features a modular design with multiple trays and integrated smart technology for automated plant care.

Function Description:

The Verdeat M/L allows users to cultivate various plants indoors, including microgreens, herbs, and larger potted plants like cherry tomatoes. It automates essential plant care functions such as lighting and watering, making it suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners. The system is controlled via a dedicated mobile app, which provides monitoring and management capabilities.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Modular Design: The system consists of multiple stacked trays, each designed for specific types of plants (Microgreens tray, Seeds tray, Pots tray).
  • Watering System: Features a main water tank and a water pump to distribute water to each level. Each level requires approximately 2-3 liters (0.5 gallons) of clean tap water. Excess water seamlessly flows back to the main tank.
  • Filtration: Includes a fiber liner filter that needs to be inserted into a filter holder and attached to the water pump.
  • Sensors: Equipped with a sunlight sensor to monitor ambient light conditions and a water spill sensor (optional) for detecting leaks.
  • Connectivity: Connects to a mobile app via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for setup, monitoring, and control. It can also be connected via a TPLINK router if included in the package.
  • Power Supply: Requires connection to an electric socket.
  • Planting Capacity:
    • Seeds Tray: Accommodates 19 seed pods per tray.
    • Microgreens Tray: Divided into four quarters, each capable of growing different microgreens. Requires 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of seeds per quarter.
    • Pots Tray: Designed for standard potted plants or for starting larger plants from seed using Verdeat Pots.

Usage Features:

  • Unboxing and Setup (Step 1-2):
    1. Cut and remove plastic bands from the packaging.
    2. Remove the top cover, then vertical corners and sides of the box.
    3. Remove horizontal stiffeners and unwrap the product.
    4. Remove accessory boxes located between levels (marked with stickers).
  • System Preparation (Step 3-7):
    1. Open the front cover of the main water tank.
    2. Insert the fiber liner filter into the filter holder.
    3. Attach the filter holder to the water pump.
    4. Place the Verdeat in the desired location near an electric socket.
    5. Connect the unit to the power supply.
    6. (Optional) Connect the water spill sensor: Attach it to the back of the system or a nearby wall using double-sided tape, then plug it into a socket.
    7. Remove all trays from the system. If using a Pots tray, remove pots before the tray.
    8. Add water to each level using a 1-liter jug, ensuring it covers half of the fiber filter on the left side of the tray (2-3 liters/0.5 gallon per level).
    9. Fill the main water tank almost to the full with additional liters of water.
  • App Connection (Step 8-10):
    1. Download the Verdeat app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
    2. Create a new account with an email address and password.
    3. Follow in-app instructions to connect the device to your phone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
    4. Scan and add your planter to the app.
    5. Enter the SSID (network name) and password of your internet router.
    6. For adding to another phone without re-pairing, use the passphrase found in the app's options tab.
    7. Once connected, the Verdeat lights will turn on.
  • App Interface (Step 11):
    • Top Bar: Logout, change device, add another planter.
    • Device Information: Name, size, connection status (green dot for connected, red dot for disconnected).
    • Control Options: Lights on/off, water pump on/off, change device name/size, delete device, factory reset.
    • Monitoring: Plant health status (based on water, nutrients, light), water level, lighting schedule, watering schedule, nutrient information.
    • Settings: Change lighting schedule, light sensor on/off, light sensor sensitivity, change watering schedule, manually add nutrient info.
    • Troubleshooting (Red Dot): If a red dot appears next to the device name, press and hold the hidden red button on the left side of the highest level for 2-3 seconds to reset the device and Bluetooth for re-pairing.
  • Planting Seeds (Step 12-14 - Seeds Tray):
    1. Watch video tutorials for detailed planting information.
    2. Remove seed covers using the included wooden stick. These can be used later to cover unused holes to prevent UV damage.
    3. Prepare up to 19 seed pods and chosen seeds per tray.
    4. Place the seeds tray in the Verdeat.
    5. Insert 19 seed pods into the holes (fewer for expansive greens like Pak Choi).
    6. Wait a few minutes for seed pods to soak and turn dark brown.
    7. Use the wooden stick to make a small hole in each seed pod.
    8. Place 3 or more seeds in each pod (tap the seed packet to pour).
    9. Cover remaining holes with seed covers if using fewer pods.
  • Planting Microgreens (Step 15-17 - Microgreens Tray):
    1. For each quarter, use about 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of seeds (depending on seed type). Different microgreens can be grown in different quarters.
    2. Soak seeds in a glass of water for 24 hours before planting.
    3. Place a fiber liner (sticky side down) in each quarter of the tray.
    4. Add 1/2 glass of water to each quarter.
    5. After 24 hours of soaking, spread seeds evenly on each quarter using a spoon.
    6. Cover each planted quarter for the first 72 hours.
    7. After 72 hours, remove tray covers with the wooden stick.
    8. Harvest microgreens after 5-7 days or more, depending on growth type.
  • Planting Potted Plants (Step 18-21 - Pots Tray):
    • Option A (Grocery Store Plants):
      1. Remove plants from their original pots.
      2. Insert a mini fiber liner into Verdeat Pots.
      3. Place half of the string into the soil using a wooden stick and leave half outside the pot.
      4. Place the prepared pots back into the Verdeat pots tray.
    • Option B (Starting from Seed):
      1. Take a Verdeat Pot and insert one or two mini fiber liners (depending on plant size).
      2. Add universal soil (not included), leaving 2.5cm/1inch from the top.
      3. Place half of a string into the soil and leave half outside the pot.
      4. Put 3 seeds in the soil.
      5. Add another 1cm/0.5inch of soil on top.
      6. Place the Verdeat Pot in the Pot Tray.
  • Connecting the Router (Step 22 - If TPLINK router included):
    1. Connect the TPLINK router to a power outlet and your home router using the included ethernet cable.
    2. Locate the passphrase on a sticker on the back of the highest level of the Verdeat.
    3. Download and open the Verdeat app, create an account.
    4. Register or sign in, then choose "Add a new device" > "Connect using passphrase" and type the passphrase, then select "Connect."

Maintenance Features:

  • Water Management: The system automatically manages water flow, with excess water returning to the main tank. Users need to periodically refill the main tank and individual levels as instructed.
  • Filter Replacement: The fiber liner filter is a consumable part that needs to be inserted and likely replaced over time, though the manual does not specify a replacement schedule.
  • Nutrient Management: The app allows users to manually add information about nutrients, suggesting that nutrient levels need to be monitored and supplemented by the user.
  • Cleaning: While not explicitly detailed, the modular design suggests that trays and components can be easily removed for cleaning.
  • Troubleshooting: The app provides a "factory reset" option and a physical reset button for connectivity issues.
