Overview

The Vestil PLB-Series Wooden Pry Lever Bar is a material handling device designed to lift the edge or corner of heavy loads on improved surfaces like concrete or asphalt. It is not intended for transporting loads. The device consists of a wooden handle, a pry plate, and a wheel assembly, allowing users to leverage heavy objects with controlled force.

Function Description:

The primary function of the PLB-Series pry bar is to provide mechanical advantage for lifting heavy objects. By sliding the pry plate under an object and applying downward pressure to the handle, users can elevate the object's edge or corner, facilitating placement of dollies, rollers, or other lifting equipment. The integrated wheel assembly, featuring poly-on-steel wheels, allows for smooth pivoting and controlled movement during the lifting process.

Important Technical Specifications:

The PLB-Series pry bars are available in three models, differing primarily in handle length and overall weight, while maintaining a consistent capacity and wheel type.

  • Models:
    • PLB-5: 5 ft. handle length, 32 lb. net weight.
    • PLB-6: 6 ft. handle length, 33 lb. net weight.
    • PLB-7: 7 ft. handle length, 34 lb. net weight.
  • Capacity: All models have a static capacity of 4,250 lb. (1,931.8 kg) when evenly distributed.
  • Wheel Dimensions: 5 in. x 2 in.
  • Wheel Type: Poly-on-steel, roller bearing, designed for a ¾ in. axle.
  • Materials: The frame and pry plate are made of durable materials, while the handle is wooden. Components like flat washers, split lock washers, HHCS bolts, cotter pins, and machine bushings are made from carbon steel with zinc finishes for corrosion resistance.
  • Maximum Downward Force: Users should not apply more than 150 lb. of downward force to the end of the handle.

Usage Features:

The PLB-Series pry bar is designed for straightforward operation, emphasizing safety and control.

  • Lifting Mechanism: To lift an object, the pry plate is slid under the object, and steady pressure is applied to the axle to push the plate further underneath. The user then carefully pulls down the end of the handle to lift the object, ensuring the pry plate does not slip.
  • Surface Requirement: The device is specifically recommended for use on improved surfaces such as concrete or asphalt to ensure stability and prevent damage to the wheels or the surface.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Users must read and understand the entire manual before use.
    • The maximum rated load must not be exceeded.
    • The pry bar should only be used to lift an edge or corner, not for transporting loads.
    • Users must avoid hanging on, sitting on, or bouncing on the pry bar.
    • Always carefully watch the load while using the pry bar.
    • Do not lean over the pry bar while lifting.
    • The device should not be used if it is damaged or if any unauthorized modifications have been made.
    • All product labels, including the model, serial number, and capacity, must be readable and present.

Maintenance Features:

Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial to ensure the safe and proper functioning of the PLB-Series pry bar.

  • Pre-Use Inspections: Before each use, including the first use, a thorough inspection is required:
    • Handle and Pry Plate: Check for significant wear, cracks, deformation, or rot.
    • Wheels and Mounting Hardware: Roll the pry bar to confirm normal wheel and bushing condition. Inspect the axle, machine bushings, and cotter pins. The axle should be straight and undamaged, bushings should be undamaged and allow wheels to turn smoothly without contacting the cotter pin, and cotter pins should be securely attached.
    • Product Labels: Ensure all labels are readable and correctly located. Replace any damaged or unreadable labels immediately.
  • General Maintenance:
    • Keep the pry bar clean by removing dirt and other matter from all surfaces.
    • Perform necessary adjustments, replacements, and repairs as needed.
    • Maintain a dated record of all repairs, adjustments, and replacements.
    • Store the pry bar in a dry location to prevent damage and rot.
  • Replacement Parts: Only replacement parts supplied or approved by Vestil Manufacturing Corp. should be installed. Unauthorized modifications or use of non-approved parts will void the limited warranty and could make the product unsafe.
  • Warranty: Vestil offers a limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship. The warranty period for original dynamic components and wearing parts is 90 days from the shipping date. The warranty is voided by product misuse, negligent operation or repair, corrosion, inadequate maintenance, shipping damage, collisions, or unauthorized modifications.
