Starting a Cut by Piercing
Preheat a small spot on the base metal to a bright cherry red kindling temperature (see 1.

2. Tilt the torch tip slightly to one side. This prevents the sparks and slag from blowing towards
you.
3. When the metal is pierced, rotate the torch. Move the torch steadily in the direction you wish
to cut (see Figure 20).
