Do you have a question about the Water quality BWS BVC75 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the installation and operation of the BWS™ BVC75 and BVC100 filter models, which are water filtration units designed for cold water supply lines. These units are intended to improve water quality by removing sediment, odors, and off-tastes, and are also certified for cyst reduction in disinfected waters.

Function Description:

The BWS™ BVC75 and BVC100 are point-of-use or whole-house water filtration systems that utilize a replaceable cartridge to filter water. Water enters the unit through the inlet port, flows through the filter cartridge, and exits through the outlet port. The valve-in-head design, specific to these models, provides three operational positions: ON, BYPASS, and OFF, allowing for flexible control over water flow through the filter. The ON position is for normal operation, directing water through the cartridge. The BYPASS position allows water to flow around a clogged cartridge, enabling continued water supply while a cartridge change is pending. The OFF position completely stops water flow through the filter, which is useful during cartridge replacement or when the filter needs to be isolated. The system is designed to be installed in a pipe length cut to accommodate the filter and necessary adapter fittings.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: BVC75 & BVC100
  • Dimensions: The housing has a length of approximately 5.5 inches (head) and a seal edge separation of 9.70 inches for 10-inch housings (sump).
  • Operation Pressure Range: 20 to 100 psi (140 to 690 kPa).
  • Operation Temperature Range: 40° to 100° F (4° to 38° C).
  • Water Type: Designed for cold water supply line installation only.
  • Materials: The head is available in P/N 120HEAD34 or 120HEAD100. The sump is P/N 12010 Clear. An O-ring (P/N G10105) seals the head to the sump, secured by a ring nut (P/N BRN01).
  • Connections: Standard models are provided with NPT pipe thread ports. Adapting fittings may be required for different pipe sizes.
  • Certifications: Units certified for cyst reduction may be used on disinfected waters that may contain filterable cysts.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The unit must be installed where it will not be subjected to direct sunlight, freezing, or other potential abuse. Proper flow direction, indicated by words or arrows on the housing, must be followed during connection. Threads should be sealed using only Teflon® tape; thread sealing compounds or paste are not recommended. If the water piping serves as an electrical ground, a jumper wire must be installed around the filter.
  • Start-Up Procedure: After installing the correct cartridge and securing the sump to the head, the unit is pressurized. For valve-in-head models (BVC75 & BVC100), the valve knob should be turned from ON to BYPASS 2-3 times, or until a small amount of water escapes from the vent, to release excess air. The knob is then set to ON for normal operation. The unit should be flushed for fifteen minutes to purge air and debris.
  • Operational Control (Valve-in-Head Models):
    • ON Position: Standard operating mode for filtration.
    • BYPASS Position: Allows water to bypass a clogged cartridge temporarily, useful during cartridge changes.
    • OFF Position: Shuts off flow through the filter, used for cartridge changes or when flow must be stopped. This position should not be maintained for more than 48 hours.
  • Water Quality: It is crucial not to use the unit with microbiologically unsafe water or water of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the unit. A water quality professional should be consulted to test water and recommend necessary treatment for contaminants not removed by this filter.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cartridge Replacement: The filter cartridge should be changed when water flow drops due to clogging, when odor or off-taste returns (indicating the filter has reached its capacity), or after six months, or whenever its efficiency decreases.
  • Cartridge Change Procedure (Valve-in-Head Models):
    1. Rotate the valve knob to BYPASS to allow water to bypass the cartridge and vent water from the sump.
    2. Separate the sump from the filter head by unscrewing the ring nut to the left, using the provided wrench if necessary.
    3. Remove the used cartridge.
    4. Inspect the O-ring for damage, clean it, and lubricate it with silicone grease to facilitate future replacements.
    5. Follow the FILTER START-UP PROCEDURE to install the new cartridge.
  • Cleaning: Chemical solvents should not be used to clean the unit. Only warm water with mild soap should be used, followed by rinsing with clean water.
  • Warning: The cartridge will lose effectiveness over time and must be changed according to the printed instructions. Failure to do so may compromise the filter's performance.
