Usage Features

Installation and Wiring:

  • Power Supply: Requires a secure connection to the vehicle's main battery (+12V) with an in-line fuse (30A for SDSP6, 50A for SDSP8) within 18 inches (45cm). The ground (GND) terminal must be connected to a clean metal part of the vehicle chassis with a minimum 8AWG wire, no longer than 2ft (60cm).
  • Fuse Protection: Built-in ATC fuses protect the amplifier. Always use specified values (30A for SDSP6, two 25A for SDSP8) when replacing.
  • Turn-on Modes: Selectable via a switch: ACC ON (for switched +12V via REM IN) or AUTO ON (for DC-offset detection from high-level inputs).
  • Input Connections: Supports high-level inputs from the main source, 2-channel low-level AUX, and digital coax.
  • Pre-out Connections: Provides 2-channel RCA pre-outs (CH5/6 for SDSP6, CH7/8 for SDSP8) for connecting additional amplifiers.
  • High-Level Input Gain Adjustments: Offers 0dB (max) to -6dB (min) attenuation. These are not traditional gains and primarily serve for attenuation or level matching between input channels.
  • Bluetooth Port: For connecting an optional Bluetooth dongle (sold separately) as an additional input source.
  • Optical Input: For connecting an external optical source (Toslink) cable.
  • Speaker Output: Each (+) and (-) wire pair connects to speakers or subwoofers. Observe correct polarity and minimum nominal impedance of 2Ω per channel.
  • Remote Control: RJ45 port for connecting the optional DRC digital remote controller (sold separately) for source select, master volume, sub volume, mute, and preset load.
  • USB PC Control: USB Type-B port for connecting to a Windows PC to run the DSP tuning software. It is recommended not to use the DRC remote while connected to PC software.

DSP Software & Settings:

  • Software Installation: Install the "STEG DSP SETUP" file from the included USB flash drive. Launch the program in "Offline-Mode" initially.
  • Initial Setup: Power on the source and DSP unit, turn source unit volume down. Connect the USB cable to the PC and select "CONNECT" from the file menu.
  • Real-time Adjustments: All adjustments made in the DSP software are applied in real-time.
  • Speaker Configuration: Select pre-set speaker configurations or manually set speaker output types to apply initial crossovers for speaker protection.
  • Input Channel Routing: Configure input signal routing (2CH, 4CH, 6CH, MIX) and assign individual input channels to output channels.
  • Pink Noise Generator: Available for each output channel for acoustic measurements and tuning with an RTA or audio spectrum analyzer.
  • Crossover Settings: Select crossover type (OFF, HP, LP, BP), frequency, filter model (Linkwitz, Bessel, Butterworth), and slope.
  • Volume and Trim Levels: Adjust master volume, sub volume (for CH7/8 on SDSP8, or pre-outs on SDSP6 if assigned as sub), and individual channel trim levels.
  • Time Delay and Phase: Adjust time delay in milliseconds, centimeters, or inches for imaging. Flip phase (0° or 180°) without affecting delay.
  • Parametric EQ: 31-band parametric EQ for each output channel with adjustable boost/cut, frequency, and Q. Visual representation on a graph.
  • Preset Management: Save up to 8 presets (POS1-POS8) to memory. Presets can be loaded to override current DSP settings. Master and sub volume are not saved to presets.

Maintenance Features

Safety Precautions:

  • Driving Safety: Do not perform functions requiring prolonged attention while driving. Keep volume at moderate levels to hear emergency sounds.
  • Vehicle Compatibility: For 12V negative ground vehicles ONLY.
  • Wiring and Fusing: Ensure correct wiring connections and use proper fuse protection. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before installation.
  • Cable Management: Prevent cables from entangling in surrounding objects or obstructing vehicle controls.
  • Drilling: Take precautions to avoid damaging vehicle systems (brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wiring) when drilling holes.
  • Mounting: Do not use bolts, nuts, or wires from vehicle safety systems for mounting, power, or ground connections.
  • Secure Installation: Install the unit securely using specified parts to prevent it from coming loose.
  • Wiring Routing: Route wiring away from sharp edges, moving parts, and protect with loom and grommets. Never run system wiring outside or underneath the vehicle.
  • Ventilation: Install in a dry and ventilated location to avoid moisture or heat buildup. Ensure amplifier chassis temperature is safe before touching.
  • Initial Tuning: Reduce gain and source volume to minimum levels before connecting signal cables and during initial system tuning.

Troubleshooting:

  • Problem Occurrence: Stop use immediately if a problem occurs and return the product to an authorized STEG dealer.
  • Professional Installation: Wiring and installation require special technical skill; contact an authorized dealer for professional service.
