Electrical: A 115 Volt, 60 Hz., AC only 15- or 20-
amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required.
It is recommended that a separate circuit serving
only your refrigerator be provided. Use an outlet
that cannot be turned off by a switch. Do not use
an extension cord.
Water: A cold water supply with water pressure
between 35 and 120 psi (241 and 827 kPa) is
required to operate the water dispenser and ice
maker.
IMPORTANT: The pressure of the water coming
out of a reverse osmosis system going to the
water inlet valve of the refrigerator needs to be
between 35 and 120 psi (241 and 827 kPa).
If a reverse osmosis water filtration system is
connected to your cold water supply, the water
pressure to the system needs to be a minimum of
approximately 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa).

Overview

The Whirlpool Bottom Mount Refrigerator is a household appliance designed for food preservation, offering a combination of refrigeration and freezing capabilities with a bottom-mounted freezer compartment. This design typically places the fresh food section at eye level, making frequently accessed items more convenient to retrieve.

For optimal operation, the refrigerator requires a dedicated electrical supply. It needs a 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC-only circuit, protected by a 15- or 20-amp fuse. It is strongly recommended that this appliance be connected to its own separate circuit to prevent electrical overloads and ensure consistent performance. The electrical outlet used must be one that cannot be inadvertently turned off by a switch, such as a wall switch, to avoid accidental power interruptions that could lead to food spoilage. The use of an extension cord is explicitly prohibited, as it can pose a fire hazard and may not provide adequate power, potentially damaging the appliance or compromising its efficiency.

Many models of this refrigerator include a water dispenser and an ice maker, which require a cold water supply for their operation. The water pressure for this supply must fall within a specific range: between 35 and 120 psi (pounds per square inch). If a reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration system is connected to the cold water supply, the pressure of the water exiting the RO system and entering the refrigerator's water inlet valve must also be maintained within the 35 to 120 psi range. Furthermore, if an RO system is in use, the water pressure to the RO system itself needs to be a minimum of approximately 40 to 60 psi to ensure proper filtration and water delivery to the refrigerator. These water pressure requirements are crucial for the correct functioning of the water dispenser and ice maker, ensuring a steady supply of filtered water and ice.

When considering the placement of the refrigerator, several location requirements must be met to ensure proper ventilation and efficient operation. To allow for adequate airflow and heat dissipation, a minimum of 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) of space should be left on each side of the refrigerator and at the top. Additionally, at least 1 inch (2.54 cm) of space is required between the back of the refrigerator cabinet and the wall. If the refrigerator includes an ice maker, extra space at the back is necessary to accommodate the water connections, preventing kinks in the water lines and allowing for easy access for maintenance or installation.

If the refrigerator is to be installed next to a fixed wall, a minimum clearance of 2½ inches (6.3 cm) on each side is recommended. This larger clearance is essential to allow the refrigerator doors to swing open fully without obstruction, providing complete access to the interior compartments for loading and unloading food, as well as for cleaning. Some specific models may require even more space on the sides, so it is always advisable to consult the detailed installation instructions provided with the product for precise measurements.

It is important to note that the refrigerator should not be installed near any heat-generating appliances or sources, such as an oven, radiator, or direct sunlight. Exposure to excessive heat can force the refrigerator to work harder to maintain its internal temperature, leading to increased energy consumption and potentially reducing its lifespan. Similarly, the refrigerator should not be placed in a location where the ambient temperature is likely to fall below 55°F (13°C). Operating in excessively cold environments can also negatively impact the refrigerator's performance, as it may struggle to regulate its internal temperature effectively, potentially affecting food preservation.

While the provided information does not detail specific maintenance features, the general design of modern refrigerators like the Whirlpool Bottom Mount Refrigerator often incorporates user-friendly aspects for ease of care. These typically include removable shelves and bins that can be easily cleaned, frost-free freezer compartments that eliminate the need for manual defrosting, and accessible water filters that can be replaced by the user. The recommendation for adequate space around the unit also indirectly contributes to maintenance, as it allows for easier access to the back and sides of the appliance for cleaning coils or checking connections, if necessary. The emphasis on proper water pressure for the ice maker and dispenser also suggests that maintaining the water supply system is a key aspect of the appliance's overall upkeep.
