3.16 Up/Down System
1. Super model up/down systems feature a spring loaded belt design. Belt tension is
automatically maintained and requires no adjustment. Replace the belt when adequate
belt tension can no longer be obtained.
WARNING! Always secure the cutting head with a chain or
a brace before removing the up/down motor belt. The
cutting head may fall, causing severe injury or death.
2. Adjust the up/down chain tension as needed. Measure chain tension with the head all the
way to the top of the vertical mast. Secure the carriage with a chain at the top, or shim it
underneath. Find the chain adjusting bolt at the bottom of the mast, behind the battery
box. Adjust the bolt until the center of the chain can be deflected 3/4” (1.9cm) forward and
3/4” (1.9cm) backward with a 5 lb. (2.3 Kg) deflection force.
WARNING! Always secure the cutting head with a chain or
a brace before adjusting the up/down chain. The cutting
head may fall, causing severe injury or death.
CAUTION! Do not over-tension the chain. Over-tensioning
the chain may lead to early failure of the gear reducer.
