Overview

The WOODTEC XW053 Spindle Moulder is a machine tool designed for woodworking, featuring a vertical spindle (arbor) that projects through a horizontal table. This appliance is specifically engineered for producing various wood profiles and joints, such as skirting boards, single and multiple mortise joints, rabbets, and bent surfaces. It is intended for recreational use and for woodworking amateurs, not for industrial or professional applications. Any use outside of the described functions may damage the appliance and compromise operator safety.

This product complies with the requirements of quality class HA 2807, the Machinery Directive (MD) 2006/42/EC, and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) 2014/30/EU.

Usage Features:

The spindle moulder is equipped with several components to facilitate its operation:

  • Side Extensions (x2): These increase the working surface, allowing for easier handling and positioning of large workpieces. They are also useful for performing stopped millings.
  • Channel for End Tappet: This feature supports the end tappet, which is crucial for precise workpiece placement.
  • Cast-Iron Table: Provides a stable and durable work surface.
  • Emergency Switch: A red button under a yellow cover, designed for immediate shutdown in case of an emergency. Closing the yellow cover activates the emergency stop.
  • Milling Guide: Essential for wedging and guiding wooden pieces both height-wise and width-wise. It must be adjusted to ensure the workpiece is stable and cannot move, leading to more accurate results.
  • Dust Collector Connection (Ø 100 mm): Located at the backside of the milling guide, it allows connection to a dust collector or vacuum system to keep the work area clean, prevent blockages, ensure proper motor cooling, and facilitate smooth workpiece movement. A cone-shaped adapter is included.
  • Transparent Blade Guard: Protects the operator from accidental contact with the milling cutter.
  • Height Adjustment Wheel Handle: Enables micrometric adjustment of the arbor's vertical movement, controlling the milling cutter's height. For safety, it is recommended to keep the tool holder as low as possible relative to the table surface.
  • Micrometric Scale for Height Adjustment: Provides precise readings for height settings.
  • Mounting Holes: Four holes at the bottom of the appliance for secure fastening to a workbench.
  • Motor Housing: Protects the motor components.
  • End Tappet: Compulsory for guiding work where milling is not applied to the full length of a piece, protecting milling cutters, and enabling quick, accurate workpiece placement.
  • Body: The main frame of the appliance.

Prior to Use:

Upon unpacking, all parts should be checked for presence and damage. Any missing or damaged parts should be reported to the dealer immediately. Packaging materials must be disposed of according to local regulations.

Installation:

The appliance should be securely fastened to a workbench with bolts. If used as a portable tool, it must be placed on a stable base. The four mounting holes at the bottom of the appliance are used for this purpose. The workbench must be sufficiently large and stable. The milling guide and non-return guide must be assembled and installed on the workbench before operation. The transparent blade guard or part #4 (depending on the task) must be installed to protect against contact with the milling cutter. The height adjustment wheel handle should also be installed.

Operation:

  • Milling Cutter Installation/Change: Always unplug the appliance before changing cutters. Select the appropriate clip for the cutter's diameter. Block the arbor, unscrew the tightening nut with the provided wrench, insert/remove the clip, and firmly tighten the nut. Ensure the cutter is securely fastened.
  • Milling Guide Adjustment: The milling guide is mandatory. Ensure guards are properly installed and adjusted. Check screw locks before starting.
  • Spacing Collars: Use spacing collars to minimize the gap between the table and the milling cutter. Ensure they are correctly installed and selected based on the cutter type and height to prevent the workpiece from tipping.
  • Starting the Appliance: Ensure the moulder's base is stable and fastened, and all safety elements, clips, and the milling cutter are tightened. Manually check arbor rotation and assembly fastening. Adjust guards. Push the green "I" button (under the yellow cover) to start, leaving the cover open. Let it run for 30 seconds to check for smooth operation and maximum speed. To turn off, push the red "O" button. Stop immediately if excessive vibration or other faults are detected.
  • Emergency Stop: Closing the yellow cover activates the emergency stop, turning off the appliance.
  • Thermal Circuit Breaker: The appliance has a thermal circuit breaker that protects the motor from overheating during long or intense use. If tripped, allow the motor to cool for several minutes before restarting.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety First: Always disconnect the appliance from the power source before any maintenance or repair.
  • General Maintenance: The appliance does not require special mechanical maintenance like bearing greasing. Keep it clean to prevent breakdowns. Lubricate parts that need it, such as the arbor. Regularly remove dust from the housing, guides, and guards.
  • Cord Inspection: Periodically check the power cord and extension cords for damage. Replace damaged cords with similar ones from an authorized service center. Using inadequate extension cords can lead to power loss and overheating.
  • Cleaning: Unplug the appliance and clean plastic parts with a soft, moist cloth and soap. Do not use solvents, detergents, alcohol, or petrol, as they can damage plastic parts. Never immerse the appliance in water.
  • Tool Handling: Store and handle clips and milling cutters carefully. Replace them when signs of wear appear.
  • Troubleshooting: If the appliance does not start, check power connections, thermal circuit breaker status, and fuses. If the issue persists, contact an authorized service center.
  • Carbon Brushes: Check brushes periodically and replace them in pairs when they are less than 5 mm thick. Ensure they are clean and slide freely. To replace, remove the PVC housing from the frame. Used carbon brushes are consumables and not covered by warranty; purchase spares from your dealer.
  • Storage: Clean the appliance and accessories thoroughly. Store it in a dry, tempered, safe, and stable place, out of reach of children. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Do not wrap it in plastic bags, as humidity can accumulate.
