Overview

WHC MACH3 Wireless MPG

The WHC MACH3 Wireless MPG is a remote control device designed for use with the MACH3 CNC system, offering wireless control and enhanced functionality for various machining operations. This device provides a convenient and flexible way to operate your CNC machine, eliminating the need for a wired connection to the control panel.

Function Description

The MACH3 Wireless MPG serves as a manual pulse generator (MPG) and a remote control for the MACH3 system. It allows users to precisely control machine movements, spindle speed, and feed rates from a distance, improving operational efficiency and safety. The device features a clear LCD display that shows critical machine information, including machine coordinates, workpiece coordinates, spindle speed, and processing feed rate values.

The MPG offers several key functions accessible through its buttons and rotary switches:

  • RESET button: Resets the system.
  • Stop button: Halts current operations.
  • Start/Pause button: Initiates or pauses machining processes.
  • Macro buttons (Macro-1 to Macro-10): These buttons can be programmed to execute specific macro functions. When pressed alone, they activate their respective macro. When combined with the "Fn" (Function) button, they perform secondary functions such as increasing/decreasing feed rate, increasing/decreasing spindle speed, returning to home positions, or setting safe Z heights.
  • Fn (Function) button: Used in combination with other buttons to activate secondary functions.
  • MPG button: Switches the handwheel into Continuous mode for smooth, continuous movement.
  • Step button: Switches the handwheel into Step mode for precise, incremental movements.
  • Axis selection band switch: Allows selection of the desired axis (X, Y, Z, A, B, C) for movement control. An "OFF" position is available to disable MPG functionality.
  • Speed selection switch: Controls the movement speed or step unit depending on the mode (Continuous or Step).

Important Technical Specifications

  • Radio frequency: 433MHZ, ISM band.
  • Tx power: 10DB.
  • RX sensitivity: -98DB.
  • Channels: 64 channels.
  • Channel gap: 1Mhz.
  • Transmission technology: Frequency hopping, ensuring stable and reliable communication.
  • Multi-device support: Can support up to 64 sets of equipment without interference.
  • Manual pulse generator (MPG): 100PPR (Pulses Per Revolution).
  • Macro function buttons: Supports 10 programmable macro functions.
  • LCD Display: Shows machine coordinates (X, Y, Z, A, B, C-axis), workpiece coordinates (X, Y, Z, A, B, C-axis), spindle speed value, and processing feed rate value.
  • Power: Requires 2 AA batteries.

Usage Features

Installation and Setup:

  1. USB Receiver Insertion: Insert the USB receiver into your computer. The system will automatically install the necessary drivers.
  2. Driver Copy: Copy the XHC-ShuttlePro.dll driver file (found on the provided CD) to the \Mach3\Plugins folder.
  3. Macro File Copy: Copy all macro files (from the macro folder on the CD) to the \Mach3\macros\Mach3Mill folder.
  4. Battery Installation: Install 2 AA batteries into the wireless MPG device.
  5. Power On: Turn on the power switch on the device. It should now be ready for normal use.

MACH3 Plugin Configuration:

  1. Open Mach3: Launch the MACH3 software.
  2. Access Plugins: Navigate to "Config" -> "Config Plugins."
  3. Select Plugin: Locate "ShuttlePro-V3.8(STEP2CON)-XHC-HB04BX-FOR-MACH3" in the list.
  4. Configure Plugin: Click the "CONFIG" button (highlighted in yellow) next to the plugin. This will open the plugin settings interface.
  5. Macro Assignment:
    • First step: Assign custom macros to the Macro-1 through Macro-10 buttons. For example, select "Custom Macro#1" for Macro-1, "Custom Macro#2" for Macro-2, and so on. For Macro-9 and Macro-10, you might choose "OEM Custom Code#1" and "OEM Custom Code#2" respectively.
    • Second step: In the "Macro Number" input fields, enter the desired M-code for each macro. For instance, Macro-1 corresponds to Macro number 1, and Macro-9 corresponds to OEM Custom Code#1.
    • Important: Ensure that the M-codes you enter are copied to the Mach3 > macro > Mach3Mill folder.

LCD Display Information:

The LCD display provides real-time feedback on the device's status and machine parameters:

  • Battery level indicator: Shows the remaining battery power.
  • Radio connection quality indication: Indicates the strength and quality of the wireless connection.
  • Key success indication: A brief flash on the indicator confirms that a button press has been successfully received by the receiver.
  • Coordinate values: Displays the current X, Y, Z, A, B, C-axis coordinates (both machine and workpiece).
  • Axis selected location: Shows which axis (X, Y, Z, A, B, C) is currently selected for control.
  • Mode: Indicates whether the handwheel is in "CON: Continuous" mode or "Step: Step" mode.
  • Speed indicator: When in MPG mode, it shows the selected percentage (2%, 5%, etc.) for continuous movement. When in Step mode, it shows the step unit (0.001, 0.01, etc.).

Wireless Connection Troubleshooting:

If the wireless USB receiver is not connected or is unsuccessful (e.g., the USB receiver is not plugged into the computer), the wireless MPG's LCD will display "...rf lost..." indicating a connection issue.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Replacement: The device uses 2 AA batteries. Replace them when the battery level indicator on the LCD shows low power to ensure uninterrupted operation.
  • Receiver Placement: For optimal signal stability, it is recommended to install the USB receiver outside the CNC machine's chassis. This helps minimize interference and ensures a strong, reliable wireless connection.
  • Software Updates: Regularly check for updates to the MACH3 plugin and macro files to benefit from new features, bug fixes, and improved performance.
  • Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris, especially the buttons and rotary switches, to maintain their functionality and longevity.
