Remove the mounting plate by turning counterclockwise until it comes loose.
Remove the screw on the battery compartment cover. Remove the battery compartment cover.
Attach the security light to the mounting plate by positioning the security light over the mounting plate at an angle. Engage the security light into the grooves of the
mounting base and secure by twisting clockwise until the security light is seated vertically.
Insert 3 new alkaline C cell batteries (not included) into the battery compartment and orient them with the “+” and “-” markings on the back of the battery compartment.
Re-attach the battery compartment cover by aligning the legs on the lower edge of the battery compartment cover onto the fixture body and close the cover until the
catch at the top engages. Re-attach the screw. When ready to use, turn the switch, located below the battery compartment to “ON”. There will be an approximate 15
second delay for the fixture to light up, even if there is motion. This will occur every time the fixture is turned “OFF” and back “ON” at the switch or the batteries are
changed. Do not mix old and new batteries. Cold weather may have a negative impact on battery life.
Locate the open holes for mounting at the middle of the mounting plate and drill a pilot hole in the centre. If mounting onto brick or masonry then use the 3/16in.
drill bit to make a hole and place the raw plugs (A) in the pilot holes and hammer them into place until flushed with the surface of the masonry. Place the washer (C)
over the mounting hole and drive the long screws (B) into the masonry anchor until it is snug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. If mounting onto a wood surface then use the
1/16in. drill bit and use the wood screws (B) and washers (C) provided to secure the mounting plate.

Overview

The Xtralite NiteSafe™ X2 Twin Security Floodlight is a battery-powered, motion-activated security light designed for outdoor use. It features two adjustable light heads and a motion sensor to provide illumination when movement is detected.

Function Description

The primary function of the NiteSafe™ X2 is to provide security lighting. It automatically turns on when its motion sensor detects movement within a specified range and coverage area, illuminating the surrounding area for a fixed duration. This device is suitable for deterring intruders or simply providing light for convenience in dark outdoor environments. It is powered by C cell alkaline batteries, making it independent of mains power and flexible in terms of installation location.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Light Source: LEDs.
  • Power Source: 3 x C cell alkaline batteries (not included).
  • Motion Sensor Range: Detects motion up to 6 meters (approximately 20 feet).
  • Motion Sensor Coverage: 180° side-to-side. The sensor is more effective for side-to-side motion than for motion coming straight at it.
  • Fixed Timer: Lights stay on for approximately 15 seconds after detecting movement.
  • Operation Condition: Operates only during the hours of darkness.
  • Mounting: Designed for surface mounting on masonry or wood. Not suitable for eave mounting onto perforated eave material, as this can lead to water seepage into the fixture canopy.
  • Low Battery Indicator: A red glow inside the PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor will stay on for 30 minutes when batteries are low.

Usage Features

  • Easy Installation: The device is designed for straightforward installation. It involves removing a mounting plate, drilling pilot holes (3/16 inch for masonry with raw plugs and screws, or 1/16 inch for wood with wood screws), securing the mounting plate, inserting batteries, and then attaching the security light to the mounting plate by twisting it clockwise until it's seated vertically.
  • Adjustable Light Heads: The two individual light heads can be adjusted independently, both up/down and left/right, allowing users to aim the light precisely where needed. This flexibility helps in optimizing illumination and preventing light from reflecting off surfaces that might trigger the sensor.
  • Motion Activation: The light automatically activates upon detecting movement, providing hands-free operation.
  • Battery Operation: Being battery-powered, the floodlight offers flexibility in placement without the need for electrical wiring.
  • ON/OFF Switch: A switch located below the battery compartment allows users to manually turn the device ON or OFF.
  • Initial Delay: After turning the switch ON or changing batteries, there is an approximate 15-second delay before the fixture lights up, even if motion is detected. This is a normal startup sequence.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Replacement: When the low battery warning light (red glow inside the PIR) appears, it's time to replace the batteries. The process involves removing the mounting base by turning it counterclockwise, then accessing and replacing the 3 x C cell alkaline batteries. It is crucial to use only alkaline batteries and to avoid mixing old and new batteries. Cold weather can negatively impact battery life.
  • Cleaning: Periodic cleaning of the fixture is recommended using a mild, non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth. Abrasive agents, solvents, or spraying cleaner directly onto the fixture or LEDs should be avoided. The power should be turned off before cleaning.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the light not coming on, continuous cycling (strobe effect), turning on during daylight, activating for no apparent reason, or staying on continuously. Solutions range from checking the ON/OFF switch and battery installation to repositioning light heads or removing heat sources from the detection zone.

Warnings & Cautions

  • ESD Protection: LEDs can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Users should discharge themselves by touching a grounded bare metal surface before installation.
  • Lens Protection: Do not remove the clear lens over the LED module to prevent damage.
  • Mounting Restrictions: Not for eave mounting onto perforated eave material to prevent water seepage.
  • Battery Handling: Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Environmental Factors: Extreme hot or cold weather can affect sensor performance. Cold weather can also negatively impact battery life.
