Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the Zanussi DA 6152 dishwasher, covering its functions, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Zanussi DA 6152 is a dishwasher designed to efficiently clean crockery, cutlery, and other kitchen items. It features a control panel with an ON-OFF indicator light, an ON-OFF push button, an ECONOMY 50° push button, a programme marker, and a programme selector dial. The dishwasher offers various washing programmes tailored to different levels of soil and types of load. These programmes include INTENSIVE 65°C for heavy soil, ECONOMY 50°C for normal soil, NORMAL 65°C for light soil, QUICK 50°C for lightly soiled dishes and glasses, and RINSE & HOLD for partial loads to be completed later. Each programme specifies the required detergent quantity for both prewash and main wash, as well as a detailed cycle description including prewash, main wash temperature, rinses (cold and hot), and drying. The machine incorporates a water softener to remove minerals and salts from the water supply, which can be adjusted based on the local water hardness. Rinse aid is automatically dispensed during the last rinse to ensure thorough rinsing and spot and streak-free drying.

Usage Features

To operate the dishwasher, users must first check that the filters are clean and properly positioned, and that there is sufficient rinse aid and salt. Dishes should be loaded after removing any food scraps, with saucepans, plates, and cutlery in the lower basket, and plates, saucers, glasses, and cups in the upper basket. It's crucial to ensure that the spray arms can rotate freely. Detergent should be measured out according to the selected washing programme and added to the dispenser. The programme selector dial is then turned clockwise to the desired programme, and the ON-OFF push button is depressed to start the cycle. The ON-OFF indicator light will illuminate, indicating the machine has started. The dishwasher automatically stops at the end of the programme, but the ON-OFF indicator light remains on until the button is depressed again. It is recommended to wait 15-20 minutes before opening the door after a programme finishes to avoid steam burns and damage to nearby furniture. The lower basket should be emptied first, followed by the upper basket, to prevent water from dripping onto clean dishes.

The loading of the appliance is designed for flexibility. The lower basket accommodates saucepans, lids, plates, and salad bowls, with serving dishes and large lids arranged around the edge to ensure free rotation of the upper spray arm. The cutlery basket, which can be separated into two parts, should be loaded with handles facing downwards, or upwards if handles protrude and obstruct the lower spray arm. Long-bladed or sharp cutlery should be positioned horizontally in the upper basket for safety. The upper basket is suitable for dessert plates, saucers, dinner plates (up to 25 cm), salad bowls, cups, and glasses. Light items should be placed in the upper basket and secured to prevent movement. The height of the upper basket is adjustable to accommodate very large plates (over 27 cm and up to 32 cm) in the lower basket. This adjustment involves moving the front runner stops outwards, sliding the basket out, and refitting it in the higher position. However, when the top basket is in the higher position, it can only accommodate plates up to 20 cm in diameter, and the raised cup racks cannot be used.

The water softener adjustment is critical for optimal performance. The dishwasher is factory-set at level 2, but users should adjust it based on their local water hardness, which can be obtained from the local Water Authority. If the water is already soft (level 0), salt is not needed, but the softener should still be set to level 1. Salt, specifically designed for dishwashers, must be added to the salt container before starting a washing programme to prevent corrosion. The salt container has an indicator (either a green float in the cap or an indicator light on the control panel) to signal when a refill is needed. Rinse aid, also specifically designed for dishwashers, should be added to its dispenser, which holds about 110 ml, sufficient for 16-40 programmes. The rinse aid dose can be adjusted using a 6-position selector to prevent water drops or lime spots (increase dose) or sticky whitish streaks (reduce dose). Only detergents specifically designed for dishwashers, such as Finish Double Action Tablets, Finish Powder, or Finish Liquid Gel, should be used. For powder detergents, the recommended quantity should be added to the dispenser, with a small amount for prewash placed over the lid. For tablet detergents, one tablet is placed inside the dispenser, and an additional portion on the lid for programmes with prewash. Using the correct amount of detergent is important for good washing results and environmental protection.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and efficient operation of the Zanussi DA 6152 dishwasher. Internal cleaning involves regularly wiping the seals around the door, detergent, and rinse aid dispensers with a damp cloth. It is recommended to use Finish Dishwasher Cleaner every three months or run a 65°C wash without dishes using detergent to clean inaccessible parts, eliminate unpleasant food odours, and prevent limescale build-up.

The filters require routine cleaning. The central filter (A) should be cleaned after each wash by removing any food scraps and rinsing it under running water. It is then refitted by pushing it back into its original position until it engages. The large filter (B) should be cleaned weekly. To do this, the spray arm is pulled upwards, the column (C) is turned anticlockwise by 90°, and the filter is slid out. After cleaning both sides of the large filter with a brush under running water, it is refitted in reverse order, ensuring the drain filter handle points towards the front of the appliance. It is crucial never to use the dishwasher without filters, as incorrect positioning or fitting can lead to poor washing results.

External surfaces and the control panel should be cleaned with a damp soft cloth and, if necessary, neutral detergents. Abrasive products, scouring pads, or solvents should never be used.

For prolonged periods of non-operation, it is advised to unplug the appliance, turn off the water supply, fill the rinse aid dispenser, leave the door ajar to prevent unpleasant smells, and ensure the inside of the machine is clean.

In locations where the temperature drops below 0°C, frost precautions are necessary. The machine should be emptied, the appliance door closed, the water inlet pipe disconnected, and the pipe emptied to prevent freezing.

If the machine needs to be moved, it should be unplugged, the water tap turned off, and both the water inlet and discharge hoses removed. The machine should then be pulled out with the hoses, avoiding over-tilting during transportation.

In case of any operational issues, a troubleshooting guide is provided to help identify and resolve common problems before contacting a service engineer. This includes checks for the machine not starting, not filling with water, blocked filters, non-rotating spray arms, drainage issues, noise, difficulty closing the door, visible lime deposits, poor drying, or inadequate cleaning. If problems persist after these checks, users are advised to contact their local Service Force Centre, providing the model and serial number found on the rating plate. It is emphasized that only authorized service engineers should repair the machine, and only genuine spare parts should be used to avoid injury or serious malfunctioning.
