SQinQ(SelectiveQinQ)isbasedonQinQtechnologyandisthe
abbreviationofSelectiveQinQ.ComparedtoordinaryQinQ,iten-
ablespacketstobetaggedwithoutertagsaccordingtoinnertag.
SQinQusessametermsasQinQtodescribeitsfeatures:Port
connectedtoClientNetworkiscalledCustomerport.Portcon-
nectedtoServiceProviderNetworkiscalledUplinkport.Access-
ingequipmentattheedgeofServiceProviderNetworkiscalled
PE(ProviderEdge).ClientNetworkisaccessedtoPEviaTrunk
VLAN.UplinkPortsinsideServiceProviderNetworkareconnected
viaTrunkVLANsymmetrically.SQinQisbasedonACLfunction.
BymatchingspecicACLtrafcrulesinports,SQinQfunctions
cansetdifferentServiceProvider’sVLANtagsforpackets.Packets
aretransmittedinServiceProviderNetwork.VlanT agsofService
ProviderwouldbestripoffwhenpacketsleaveServiceProvider
Vlan.
SQinQcongurationincludesthefollowingtwosteps:
1.CustomerPortStrategyConguration
Congureagroupofcustomervlanscorrespondingtoone
uplinkvlan.Oneportcanconguremultiplecustomervlan
groups,butmustmakesurethatvlancan’toverlapindifferent
customervlangroupsonthesameport.
CongurationofSQinQinCustomerPortonlymakessensefor
packetswhichcarrying802.1QtagandfordesignatedCus-
tomerVlan.AstotheCustomerVlanwhichcarries802.1Ptag
oruntag,ItareallhandledasnormalVlan.
Note:
SQinQwouldnotworkingoodconditionwhenQinQisalready
congured.ReasonisthatportcouldnotrecognizeCustomer
VlanTaganymorewhenQinQisconguredonthisport.Con-
sequently,SQinQwouldnotgetanyCustomerVlaninforma-
tion.
2.ISPvlanConguration
ItisnecessarytooperateServiceProviderNetworkafterCus-
tomerPortconguration.Packetscanbeexchangedsuccess-
fully.CongureallportsinServiceProviderNetworkasT ag
PortsandallCustomerPortsasUntagPorts.Allthepackets
exchangedinServiceProviderNetworkcarrytwolayersofT ag
whichareUplinkTagandCustomerTag.Whenpacketsleaving
ServiceProviderNetwork,thereisonlyonelayerofT agleft:
