What to do if A.O. Smith GCVT-50 Water Heater is leaking?
    • W
      William LopezAug 14, 2025
If you notice water leaks from your A.O. Smith Water Heater, first, check all threaded connections such as hot or cold supply connections, the relief valve, drain valve, or thermostat threads. Tighten any connections that seem loose. Also, inspect other appliances and water lines near the water heater for any leakage.

Why A.O. Smith GCVT-50 burner will not stay lit?
    • M
      Michael MosleyAug 17, 2025
If the burner on your A.O. Smith Water Heater won't stay lit, it could be due to several reasons. A defective thermocouple TCO might be the cause, requiring replacement of the pilot assembly. Alternatively, high ambient room temperature or a dirty/clogged air intake screen could be the issue. Try cleaning and reinstalling the air intake screen. If the flame arrestor openings are blocked or the gas control is defective, it's recommended to contact a service agency or replace the gas control, respectively.

How to fix A.O. Smith Water Heater pilot that will not light?
    • R
      Robert WrightAug 20, 2025
If the pilot light of your A.O. Smith Water Heater won't light, ensure the main gas supply is turned on and check that the gas control knob is correctly positioned. Adjust the igniter tip if it's more than 1/8" from the pilot hood. Other potential causes include a thermocouple malfunction, a broken electrode or electrical wire, or a malfunctioning Piezo Ignitor generator. In such cases, replacing the pilot assembly or Piezo Ignitor generator may be necessary. Also, reconnect the wire connector to the spark ignitor if it is disconnected.

What to do if A.O. Smith GCVT-50 T&P valve is leaking?
    • M
      Mrs. Nicole BarkerAug 25, 2025
If your A.O. Smith Water Heater's T&P valve is leaking, it might be due to thermal expansion in a closed water system. In this case, install a thermal expansion tank. Also, check the relief valve for proper operation, ensuring it's correctly seated.

Why does the pilot light keep going out on my A.O. Smith GCVT-50?
    • M
      Michael KingAug 27, 2025
If the pilot light on your A.O. Smith Water Heater keeps going out, it might be due to a dirty pilot burner. Try cleaning the pilot assembly. Also, check the air intake screen and clean and reinstall it if it's dirty or clogged. Ensure the thermocouple tip is correctly positioned in contact with the pilot flame. If these steps don't resolve the issue, the thermocouple itself may be malfunctioning and need replacement.

Why is my A.O. Smith GCVT-50 Water Heater not producing enough hot water?
    • R
      Rickey MayoAug 30, 2025
If your A.O. Smith Water Heater is not providing enough hot water, first check if the heater is lit and the thermostat is on. If not, consult the lighting instructions. If the thermostat is set too low, adjust it according to the temperature regulation guidelines. If the heater is undersized, reduce your hot water usage. Also, consider that unusually cold incoming water will require more time for the heater to reheat, and leaking hot water pipes or fixtures should be checked and repaired by a plumber.

    • B
      barneserinSep 3, 2025
If the water from your A.O. Smith Water Heater is too hot, it's likely that the thermostat is set too high. Refer to the temperature regulation guidelines to adjust it to a more comfortable and safe setting.

Why does my A.O. Smith GCVT-50 have smelly odors?
    • B
      Brent MooreSep 6, 2025
If you notice smelly odors coming from your A.O. Smith Water Heater, it could be due to high sulfate or mineral content in the water supply. To resolve this, drain and flush the heater thoroughly, then refill it. Another possible cause is bacteria in the water supply, in which case you should chlorinate or aerate the water supply.

Why A.O. Smith GCVT-50 is sizzling and rumbling?
    • J
      Justin FordSep 9, 2025
