Overview

The AJ-765 is an Auto Resetting Smoke Detector with Wireless Interconnect, designed to provide early warning of smoke and fire. It utilizes a photoelectric chamber for smoke detection and features wireless interconnectivity, allowing multiple detectors to communicate with each other.

Function Description:

The primary function of the AJ-765 is to detect smoke and alert occupants through an audible alarm and interconnected detectors. When smoke is detected, the device's sounder activates, and any other linked detectors will also activate within 20 seconds. The detector automatically resets once the smoke has cleared. It also includes a "Hush" feature, which allows users to temporarily silence the alarm for 9 minutes by pressing the test button if the detector has been activated by a non-emergency event. The device provides visual indications for normal operation, faults, low battery, and hush mode.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Detection Type: Photoelectric Chamber
  • Power Source: Battery with up to a 10-year life
  • Buzzer Output: 85dB at 3 meters
  • Wireless Frequency: 433MHz
  • Interconnect Range: Up to 50 meters apart
  • Dimensions: 40mm x Ø110mm
  • Operating Temperature Range: 0°C to 40°C
  • Compatibility: Can be paired with AJ-718 Heat Detector and AJ-R106 Remote Test & Hush Controller.
  • Standards: EN14604:2005/AC:2008 & AS3786:2014

Mounting Clearances:

Proper mounting is crucial for optimal performance. The detector requires specific clearances from walls, ceilings, and other obstructions:

  • Ceiling Mounting:
    • Minimum 500mm from any wall.
    • Maximum 1500mm from any wall for exposed beams.
    • Avoid "Dead Air Space" (corners where walls meet ceilings, or areas near exposed beams) as smoke may not reach these areas effectively.
  • Wall Mounting (if necessary):
    • Minimum 300mm from the ceiling.
    • Maximum 500mm from the ceiling.
  • General: Maintain a minimum of 300mm from any corner.
  • Location Guidance:
    • Must-have Locations: Within 3 meters of every bedroom door (indicated by a red circle).
    • Recommended Locations: In bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms (indicated by a green circle).
    • Optional Heat Detector (AJ-718): Can be placed in areas like kitchens or garages where smoke detectors might be prone to false alarms (indicated by an orange circle).
    • Always refer to the latest standards/building codes for specific mounting locations.

Usage Features:

  • Wireless Interconnect: Allows multiple AJ-765 smoke detectors, AJ-718 heat detectors, and AJ-R106 remote controllers to communicate wirelessly. When one detector alarms, all interconnected devices will also sound.
  • Hush Feature: Temporarily silences the alarm for 9 minutes by pressing the test button when the detector has been activated by non-emergency smoke (e.g., cooking fumes). The detector will flash red without beeping during this mode.
  • Visual Indications:
    • Green Flash every 60 seconds: Indicates the detector is performing correctly.
    • Red Flash every 8 seconds plus beep: Indicates a fault, requiring cleaning or replacement.
    • Red Flash every 50 seconds plus beep: Indicates a low battery, requiring replacement.
    • Red Flashing with No beeping: Indicates the detector is in Hush mode for 9 minutes.

Pairing Instructions for Wireless Interconnect:

  1. Power On: Flick the switch on the bottom of each detector to the "On" position. Locking detectors to their base automatically turns them on.
  2. Clear Memory: On all detectors, press and hold the test button until the green light flashes 4 times, then flashes back 3 times slowly. This clears any previous pairing data.
  3. Select a Master: On one detector (to be the master), press and hold the test button until the green light flashes 3 times. The red light will then start flashing, indicating it's in pairing mode (up to 60 seconds).
  4. Learn in a Detector (Slave): On each slave detector, press and hold the test button until the green light flashes 2 times. The red light will then start flashing as it tries to learn. The green light will flash 3 times to indicate successful pairing. Repeat for all other detectors.
  5. Wait: Wait 60 seconds before testing after all detectors have been paired.
  6. Testing: Press the test button (for less than 1 second) on any one of the detectors. All paired detectors should activate within 20 seconds. The hush button can be pressed on each detector during this test without affecting the wireless interlink test.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Testing: Smoke detectors should be tested once a month. To test, press the test button for less than 1 second. The sounder should activate, and any other linked detectors should also activate within 20 seconds.
  • Automatic Reset: The smoke detector's sounder will automatically reset once all the smoke has cleared.
  • Cleaning: Routine cleaning is required to ensure no false triggers. If using an aerosol smoke detector tester, follow all instructions provided on the can, as improper use may degrade detector performance.
