Overview

The document is an operation manual for an ACEUP portable inverter generator, model A14500.

Function Description

The ACEUP A14500 is an open-frame inverter generator designed to provide portable electrical power. It features a digital meter that displays voltage, frequency, total run time, low oil alarm, power output, economy mode, and AC reset. The generator is equipped with an ON/OFF/CHOKE switch to control engine operation and fuel flow, and an Economy Switch for optimizing fuel economy and noise reduction based on the type of load. It also includes an AC Reset button to re-energize receptacles after an overload fault and a DC Reset (circuit protector) for the DC receptacle. The generator is designed for outdoor use only due to the production of carbon monoxide.

Important Technical Specifications

Generator Specifications:

  • Rated Power: 3600 W
  • Peak Power: 4500 W
  • Rated AC Voltage: 120 V
  • Rated AC Load: 30 Amps
  • Current @ 120V: 30 Amps
  • Rated Frequency: 60 Hz @ 3600 RPM
  • Phase: Single Phase
  • Generator Dry Weight (assembled): 63.9 lbs.
  • Operating Temperature Range: -18°C (0°F) to 40°C (104°F). Power may decrease above 25°C (77°F).
  • Maximum wattage and current: Subject to factors like fuel Btu content, ambient temperature, altitude, and engine condition. Power decreases about 3.5% per 1,000 feet above sea level and about 1% per 6°C (10°F) above 16°C (60°F) ambient temperature.

Engine Specifications:

  • Displacement: 223 cc
  • Spark Plug Type: F6TC
  • Spark Plug Gap: 0.7-0.8 mm (0.028-0.031 inch)
  • Gasoline Capacity: 2.64 gal (10 L)
  • Oil Type: See chart in the Add Engine Oil Section
  • Oil Capacity: 0.634 qt (0.6 L)
  • Run Time at 50% Load: 6.0 Hours

Connection Plugs:

  • 120 VAC, 20 Amp, Duplex Receptacle (NEMA 5-20R): Overload protected by a 20 Amp push-to-reset circuit breaker. Powers loads up to 2400 watts (2.4 kW) or 20 Amps.
  • 120 VAC, 30 Amp Receptacle: Requires a NEMA L5-30 plug. Powers loads up to 3000 watts (3.0 kW) or 25 Amps. Protected by a 25 Amp circuit breaker.
  • 12 Volt DC: 3.3A output, protected by a DC Breaker.
  • Parallel Operation Outlets: Allows two inverters to operate in parallel for output power up to 3420W (with a 5% power loss when paralleling). Requires an optional Parallel Kit.

Usage Features

  • Intelligent Gauge: A six-mode digital meter displays key operational parameters such as voltage (V), frequency (H), total run time (R), power output (watts), and indicates low oil and economy mode status. An AC Reset button is available to re-energize receptacles after an overload.
  • Economy Mode Button: Provides excellent fuel economy and noise reduction. "ON" is recommended for resistive loads (e.g., TV, radio), while "OFF" is best for inductive loads (e.g., RV, air conditioner, hairdryer) or when loads are frequently turning on and off.
  • ON/OFF/CHOKE Switch: This dial controls the engine's ON/OFF functions, choke, and fuel valve operation. The OFF position stops the engine and shuts off fuel flow. The ON position is for normal operation and to gradually reduce choke use.
  • Grounding: The generator's frame and AC output receptacle ground terminals are connected, allowing it to be used as a portable unit without external grounding. However, local electrical codes may require proper grounding.
  • Overload Protection: The AC receptacles are protected by an inverter module, which stops voltage output if overloaded or a short circuit occurs. The DC receptacle is protected by a circuit protector.
  • Low Oil Level Shutdown System: The engine will shut down and not run if the oil level is too low, indicated by the Low Oil Warning Indicator Light.
  • Fuel Requirements: Uses clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum rating of 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON). Up to 10% ethanol (gasohol) is acceptable. E85 and gas oil mixes are not to be used. Fuel stabilization is recommended for storage.
  • Starting: Features a recoil starter. The process involves turning the fuel cap vent ON, rotating the ON/OFF/CHOKE dial to CHOKE, switching Economy switch to OFF, and pulling the recoil handle.

Maintenance Features

  • Maintenance Schedule: Regular maintenance is crucial for performance and extended life. Intervals are based on usage (e.g., every 50 hours, every 100 hours/season, every 200 hours/season).
  • Engine Oil: Check engine oil level at each use. Change oil every 50 hours (or after the first 30 hours of operation). Use petroleum-based oil for engine break-in before switching to synthetic oil. The manual provides a viscosity chart based on temperature.
  • Air Filter: Clean/replace the air filter every 50 hours. More frequent cleaning is needed in dirty/dusty conditions. Wash in soapy water and squeeze dry.
  • Spark Plug: Replace the spark plug every 100 hours or every season. Inspect and adjust the gap to 0.6-0.7mm (0.024-0.028 in). Replace if pitted, burned, or cracked.
  • Spark Arrestor: Inspect and clean the spark arrestor screen every 100 hours of operation or every season. Replace if torn, perforated, or damaged.
  • Fuel Filter: Replace the fuel filter every 200 hours or every season.
  • Valve Clearance: Check and adjust valve clearance after the first 50 hours of operation and every 100 hours thereafter. This should be performed by an Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD).
  • Preventive Maintenance: Daily cleaning of the generator exterior, especially cooling air openings, is recommended to prevent dirt and debris buildup. Avoid using a garden hose for cleaning to prevent water from entering the fuel system or internal windings.
  • Storage: For storage longer than 30 days, the fuel system should be emptied unless treated with fuel stabilizer. If stabilized, run the engine for 10-15 minutes to circulate the stabilizer. Change engine oil, remove the spark plug, add engine oil or fogging agent into the cylinder, pull the starter recoil several times, and reinstall the spark plug. Store in a clean, dry area away from heat and ignition sources, with a protective cover.
