Fault locator mode
• Return to the normal display of the two traces in overlay by successively
pressing the <Expert>, <Overlay>, <Standard overlay> keys.
• Return to displaying a single trace by successively pressing the <Expert>,
<Overlay>, <1 trace> keys.
Note The MTS
e
also exits this mode if a new trace is loaded or a new
acquisition is started and the trace obtained is not compatible with
the active trace.
Fault locator mode
Function
The Fault Locator detects the distance from the beginning (origin) of the fiber to
the end, thus locating any possible break in the fiber.
Choice of function
Press the
SETUP key, then the <Config. Instrument> key and select the Fault
Locator icon "Instrument Set up" on page 3-11.
Configuring the test
Press the <Config. Test> key. Three parameters must be defined:
Acquisition Laser wavelength of signal emitted (1310 or 1550 nm, 850 or 1300
nm, 1550/1625 nm depending on module).
Index index of fiber. It is then possible either to choose this index
directly by using the arrow keys < and >, or to choose the
type of cable in the proposed list by pressing the <Preset
Index> key. In this latter case, move the cursor to the type
of cable by using the < and > keys, then press the key
<Confirm Index> to validate this choice. See "Preset index
values" on page 5-6.
Fiber end threshold Loss threshold corresponding to the end of the
fiber being detected: Auto or Manual (from 3 to15 dB).
The Auto position is recommended.
Starting the test
Press the
START/STOP key.
The test is configured automatically, then a bar graph indicates the state of
progress of the test and the number of acquisitions made.
By default, the test lasts 1 minute, but it may be stopped at any moment by
pressing the
START/STOP key.
At the end of the test, the instrument measures the distance of the end of the fiber
and displays the value in the chosen units.
