Overview

This document describes the AcuRite Tower Sensor, model 06009RM/607TX, an outdoor sensor designed to provide environmental data to a compatible display unit. The sensor is part of AcuRite's range of precision instruments, aimed at offering reliable information for planning daily activities.

Function Description

The AcuRite Tower Sensor is an outdoor sensor that wirelessly transmits environmental data, primarily temperature, to a compatible AcuRite display unit. It is designed to provide accurate readings of outdoor conditions, which can then be used by the display unit to present information to the user. The sensor's primary function is to gather raw environmental data from its placement location and relay it to the indoor display for interpretation and display.

Usage Features

The sensor is equipped with an integrated hanger, allowing for easy placement in a suitable outdoor location. When data is being transmitted to the display unit, a wireless signal indicator on the sensor will flash, providing visual confirmation of its operation.

For optimal performance and accuracy, careful placement of the outdoor sensor is crucial. It should be positioned outdoors to observe actual outdoor conditions. While the sensor is water-resistant and designed for general outdoor use, placing it in an area protected from direct weather elements is recommended to extend its lifespan.

The ideal placement for the sensor is typically 4 to 8 feet above the ground, in a location with permanent shade and ample fresh air circulation. This helps ensure accurate temperature measurements by keeping the sensor out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources.

To ensure reliable wireless communication, the sensor and its corresponding display unit must be within a specified range of each other. It is also important to place the sensor away from large metallic items, thick walls, metal surfaces, or other objects that might obstruct or limit wireless communication. Additionally, to prevent wireless interference, the sensor should be kept at least 3 feet (0.9 m) away from other electronic devices such as TVs, computers, microwaves, or radios.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance primarily involves battery management. The sensor operates on batteries, and AcuRite recommends using high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries for the best product performance. Heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not recommended.

For low-temperature conditions, specifically below -4°F / -20°C, lithium batteries are required. Alkaline batteries may not function properly in such cold environments. To install or replace batteries, the battery compartment cover needs to be slid off. Two AA batteries are then inserted into the compartment, following the polarity diagram (+/-) indicated inside. After inserting the batteries, the cover should be replaced.

Proper disposal of old or defective batteries is emphasized, advising users to do so in an environmentally safe way and in accordance with local laws and regulations. Battery safety guidelines include cleaning battery contacts before installation, removing batteries from equipment not in use for extended periods, promptly removing dead batteries, and disposing of used batteries properly. Users are cautioned against incinerating used batteries, disposing of them in fire (as they may explode or leak), mixing old and new batteries or different types of batteries (alkaline/standard), using rechargeable batteries, or recharging non-rechargeable batteries. Short-circuiting the supply terminals is also to be avoided.

For customer support, AcuRite provides various resources, including installation videos, instruction manuals, replacement parts, product registration, a support user forum, and options to submit feedback and ideas. Registering the product online is recommended to receive a 1-year warranty protection. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase, provided the product is properly installed and operated. The warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of defective items and does not cover normal wear and tear, damage from acts of nature, tampering, abuse, improper installation, shipping damage, or repairs/alterations by unauthorized parties.
