Overview

The Adamson IS7 is an ultra-compact line array enclosure designed for medium throw applications, featuring a robust and unobtrusive visual design that seamlessly blends into various environments. It is part of the Adamson IS-Series, known for its durable cabinet design and advanced acoustic technologies.

Function Description:

The IS7 is a two-way, passive line array loudspeaker system. It contains two symmetrically arrayed 7" LF (low-frequency) transducers and a 3" HF (high-frequency) compression driver mounted onto an Adamson sound chamber. This high-frequency sound chamber is specifically designed to couple multiple cabinets across the entire intended frequency band without loss of coherence, ensuring consistent sound dispersion. The IS7 can be used as a standalone system or integrated with companion subwoofers like the IS118 or other IS-Series subwoofers to extend its usable frequency range down to 35 Hz. It is designed for use with Lab.gruppen's D-Series installation amplifiers, maximizing amplifier efficiency due to its nominal impedance of 16 Ω per band.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Frequency Range (-6 dB): 80 Hz - 18 kHz
  • Nominal Directivity (-6 dB) H x V: 100° x 12.5°
  • Maximum Peak SPL: 138 dB (12 dB crest factor pink noise at 1m, free field, using specified processing and amplification)
  • Components LF: 2x ND7-LM8 7" Neodymium Driver
  • Components HF: NH3 3" Diaphragm / 1.4" Exit Compression Driver
  • Nominal Impedance LF: 16 Ω (2 x 8 Ω)
  • Nominal Impedance HF: 16 Ω
  • Power Handling (AES / Peak) LF: 500 W / 2000 W
  • Power Handling (AES / Peak) HF: 110 W / 440 W
  • Rigging: Integrated Rigging System
  • Connection: 2x Speakon™ NL4 or Barrier Strips (depending on model: IS7 or IS7b)
  • Dimensions (Height Front / Back x Width x Depth): 236 mm / 9.3 in (front), 122 mm / 4.8 in (back) x 527 mm / 20.75 in x 401 mm / 15.8 in
  • Weight: 14 kg / 30.9 lbs
  • Colour: Black & White (RAL 9010 as standard, other RAL colours on demand)
  • Processing: Lake

Usage Features:

  • Rigging System: The IS7 features a four-point rigging system, allowing for flexible deployment. Up to sixteen IS7 cabinets can be flown in a single array using the IS7/IS118 Rigging Frame, and up to eight when using the IS7 Micro Frame. Nine rigging positions are available, offering vertical inter-cabinet splay angles from 0° to 10°. Users must consult Blueprint AV™ and the IS-Series Line Array Rigging Manual for correct rigging positions and installation procedures, including ground stacking options.
  • Amplification: The IS7 is designed to be powered by Lab.gruppen D-Series amplifiers. The manual provides guidelines for maximum quantities of IS7 per amplifier model, with a master list available in the Adamson Amplification Chart.
  • Presets & Control: Adamson provides a LoadLibrary containing presets specifically designed for various IS7 applications. These presets ensure phase-linear operation with IS118 or IS119 subwoofers. For separate cabinet and subwoofer positioning, phase alignment should be measured using suitable software.
  • Array Shaping Overlays: These overlays, found in the Array Shaping folders of the Adamson Load Library, can be recalled in the EQ section of Lake Controller. They allow adjustment of the array's contour to achieve the standard Adamson frequency response, compensating for different low-frequency coupling.
  • Tilt Overlays: Also located in the Array Shaping folders, Tilt overlays modify the overall acoustic response of an array. They apply a filter centered at 1kHz, providing noted decibel cut or boost at the extreme ends of the listening spectrum (e.g., a +1 Tilt applies +1 dB at 20 kHz and -1 dB at 20 Hz). Detailed instructions for recalling Tilt and Array Shaping overlays are available in the Adamson PLM & Lake Handbook.
  • Connectivity: The IS7 model (971-0003, 971-5003) is equipped with 2x Neutrik Speakon™ NL4 connections, wired in parallel. The IS7b model (971-0004, 971-5004) features an external barrier strip. Pins 1+/- are connected to the 2x ND7-LM8 MF transducers, while Pins 2+/- are connected to the NH3-16 HF transducer.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durability: The enclosure is made of marine-grade birch plywood, contributing to its low resonance and overall durability.
  • Weatherized Models (IS7w): For permanent outdoor installations in marine, coastal, stadium, or open-air performance environments, weatherized IS-Series models offer enhanced protection:
    • Corrosion Resistance: All structural steel elements, including rigging and rigging links, are made of high-yield strength stainless steel alloy, providing 100% corrosion resistance. Cabinet hardware is non-plated stainless steel, designed for exceptional rust and corrosion resistance, particularly in high-saline environments.
    • Environmental Sealing: The cabinet's interior is coated with the same two-part polyurea as the exterior, creating a complete seal to guard against water and particle intrusion. This smooth exterior finish also facilitates easy cleaning of contaminants.
    • Particle Protection: A fine stainless steel mesh is added to all points of entry, including behind the front grille screens, to protect against dust and other particles.
    • Protected Cabling: Cabling for weatherized cabinets is pre-wired and protected inside a gasket-sealed jackplate, with gland nuts sealing the connection points.
  • Regular Inspection: Users are advised to inspect products regularly for any visual or functionality irregularities. Servicing is required if the loudspeaker is damaged (e.g., dropped) or if it does not operate normally.
  • Qualified Technician: A qualified technician must be present during the installation and use of this product, especially given its capability to produce extremely high sound pressure levels. Adamson Systems Engineering is not liable for damages caused by misuse.
  • Cabling Protection: Cabling should be protected from being walked on or pinched to prevent damage.
  • Magnetic Field Caution: The speaker enclosure can create a strong magnetic field; caution should be exercised around data storage devices.
