The HiGain Remote Indoor Enclosure, model HRE-420, is a wall-mounted enclosure designed to house various HiGain remote units, including the HRU-402, HRU-412, and HDU-451 Doubler Unit. It serves as an interface point for HDSL (High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) and DS1 (Digital Signal 1) signals, connecting field cable pairs to the remote unit and providing access to interface signals, battery power, and ground connections.
Function Description:
The HRE-420 enclosure facilitates the installation and connection of HiGain remote units in indoor environments. It consists of a wall mount section and a cover that slides over and attaches to the wall mount section. The wall mount section features a printed circuit board that connects the card edge connector of the installed remote unit to various external interfaces.
The enclosure supports different configurations, categorized into "Lists" (1, 2, 3, and 4), each tailored for specific applications and interface requirements:
- List 1 and 2: Primarily intended for domestic use in Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) and independent telephone companies in the United States. These units feature RJ-48C (List 1) and RJ-48X (List 2) DS1 interface connectors. The RJ-48C is configured as a non-shorting (looping) connector, while the RJ-48X is a shorting (looping) connector.
- List 3: Designed for international ERU-412 applications, complying with G.703 standards. This unit includes one DB15 connector and two BNC connectors, supporting both 120 ohm balanced and 75 ohm unbalanced interfaces.
- List 4: Meets the DS1 Canadian interface requirements, featuring one DB-15 connector and one RJ-48C connector.
The enclosure provides a 10-position terminal block (TB1) for accessing all interface signals (HDSL and DS1), battery connections, and ground. A rear panel punch-out labeled LEC (Local Exchange Carrier) allows for cable access to TB1.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Operating Temperature and Humidity: -40° to +65° Celsius, 5% to 95% (non-condensing).
- Dimensions:
- Height: 6.5 in. (16.51 cm)
- Width: 2.0 in. (5.08 cm)
- Depth: 9.5 in. (24.13 cm)
- Weight: 22 oz (623.7 g)
- Power Source: Use only with isolated Class 2 power source, rated 48 Vdc 3.0A maximum.
- Certifications:
- UL Listed Component: The HRE-420 is a UL-listed component. However, using HDU-451 or EDU-451 doubler units in the HRE-420 will void the UL certification.
- CSA Certification: Complies with CSA Standard C22.2 -950 with telecommunication features.
Usage Features:
- Compatibility: Accepts single-width "400 or 200" mechanics type plugs, accommodating various HiGain remote units.
- Interface Flexibility: Offers multiple interface options (RJ-48C, RJ-48X, DB15, BNC) to suit different regional and international standards (DS1, G.703).
- Bi-directional HDSL Signals: HDSL LOOP 1 and 2 signals are bi-directional, meaning they do not carry explicit "transmit" or "receive" designations. In T1 terminology, Loop 1 is referred to as the "receive pair" and Loop 2 as the "transmit pair."
- Doubler Applications: Supports EDU-451 and HDU-451 doubler applications, with specific wiring configurations for HDSL LOOP 1 and 2 IN/OUT connections.
- G.703 Compliance (List 3): For international applications, the List 3 unit provides G.703 120 ohm balanced and 75 ohm unbalanced interfaces. Jumper JP2 allows connecting the input's outside connector to earth (frame ground) for the 120 ohm connector J5, and jumper JP1 provides this option for the 75 ohm connector J3.
- Secure Mounting: The enclosure is designed for wall mounting and can be secured using three holes on the mounting plate. A securing screw is provided for added security.
- Tamper-Proof Option: A tamper-proof screw, requiring an Allen key wrench, can replace the factory-provided securing screw for enhanced security.
- MPOE Compliance (List 1 and 2): The RJ-48 jack includes a small metal cover to prevent access to the DS1 interface when the Customer Interface (CI) is external, making the HRE-420, List 1 and 2, MPOE (Minimum Point Of Entry) compliant.
- Circuit Assignment Label: A gummed label is included for circuit I.D.#, which can be attached to any convenient location on the enclosure.
Maintenance Features:
- Non-User Serviceable: These units contain no user-serviceable components. Only authorized ADC Service Personnel should service or repair them.
