Overview

The ADE BA 2300-x Body Analyser Scale is a high-quality product designed for personal use to measure and track body composition. It combines intelligent functions with an exceptional design, leveraging ADE's extensive experience to ensure high technical standards and proven quality.

Function Description

The body analyser scale utilizes Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology. This involves a imperceptible, harmless, and weak electrical current flowing through the body. Measurements are taken via sensors on the weighing surface. The current flows relatively unimpeded through the fluid in muscle mass, while resistance is higher in fat mass. This resistance is measured to determine body composition.

Based on personal data (gender, weight, age, and height), the scale calculates the following body composition information:

  • Weight: Displayed in the set measurement unit (kg or lb).
  • Body Fat Content: Percentage of body fat (measurement range 3-50%).
  • Body Water Content: Percentage of body water (measurement range 25-75%).
  • Muscle Mass: Percentage of muscle mass (measurement range 25-75%).
  • Bone Mass: Percentage of bone mass (measurement range 1-25%).
  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): Calorie requirement per day.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI): A measure for evaluating body weight.

The scale has 10 memory locations for storing personal data.

Usage Features

Start-up and Unit Selection:

The scale requires 2 LR03 (AAA) 1.5 V batteries (included). The battery compartment is located on the underside of the device. To install batteries:

  1. Open the battery compartment by pushing the locking tab towards the scale and removing the cover.
  2. Insert batteries according to the polarity (+/-) indicated on the compartment floor.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover, ensuring the locking tab audibly snaps into place. Battery replacement is necessary when "Lo" appears on the display or nothing is shown. Always replace all batteries with the specified type.

The default measurement unit is "kg," but "lb" (pound) can also be selected. To change the unit:

  1. Step or press briefly with some force on the weighing surface. The display will show "0.0" and the current unit (e.g., "kg").
  2. Use the ▲ button to select the desired unit. When entering body data later, height must be entered in "cm" for "kg" or "ft" for "lb," as these units are linked.

Scale Placement:

Place the scale on a stable, even, and dry surface. Avoid placing it on carpets.

Entering Personal Data:

To enable body analysis, personal data must be entered quickly, otherwise the scale may revert to normal weighing mode or switch off.

  1. Step or press with some force on the weighing surface. "0.0" and the unit (e.g., "kg") will appear.
  2. Press SET.
  3. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to select a memory location.
  4. Press SET.
  5. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to select gender (male or female).
  6. Press SET.
  7. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to select physical fitness (untrained, trained, athletic).
  8. Press SET.
  9. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to enter age.
  10. Press SET.
  11. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to enter desired weight in the displayed unit.
  12. Press SET.
  13. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to enter height.
  14. Press SET to save data. The display will show "0," and body analysis can be performed. Holding ▲ or ▼ accelerates value scrolling. Entered data can be overwritten.

Performing Body Analysis:

Body analysis requires bare feet, lightly moistened for better electrical conductivity. Stand still on the scale, ensuring each foot is on a sensor, with no contact between feet, legs, calves, or thighs to avoid inaccurate measurements.

  1. Step or press with some force on the weighing surface.
  2. Briefly press SET.
  3. Use the ▲ or ▼ button to select the memory location with your personal data.
  4. Wait until the memory location number stops flashing.
  5. Step barefoot onto the scale. Stand still. The measured weight will appear, followed by "o" indicating body analysis is in progress. The measured values will then be repeatedly displayed, along with an English evaluation (Underfat, Healthy, Overfat, Obese). A ▲ symbol next to the desired weight indicates the measured weight is still higher than desired.

Automatic User Recognition:

The scale features automatic user recognition, provided personal data has been saved and at least one body analysis performed. When stepping on the scale, it automatically switches on and displays weight. If a similar weight (difference less than 2.5 kg) is found in stored data, the LCD flashes once and shows the corresponding memory cell, then starts body analysis. If the weight difference between two saved users is less than 2.5 kg, manual memory cell selection is required.

Measurement Errors:

Body analysis may be inaccurate for:

  • Individuals exercising 10+ hours/week.
  • Professional athletes, bodybuilders, or endurance athletes.
  • Individuals over 85 or under 10 years old. Normal weighing function is unaffected for these groups.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • Do not immerse the scale in water or other liquids.
  • Do not use harsh, scouring, or abrasive cleaning agents to avoid scratching the surface.
  • Wipe the scale with a slightly damp soft cloth as needed.
  • Disinfect the weighing surface and sensors periodically with a suitable disinfectant.

Troubleshooting:

  • No function: Check if batteries are empty or inserted incorrectly.
  • Wrong weighing results: Ensure the scale is on a firm, even surface. Check for nearby devices causing electromagnetic disturbances. Remove batteries, wait, and reinsert; stored data will be retained.
  • "EEEE" on display: Maximum capacity (200 kg) exceeded.
  • "C" on display: Measured weight is under 5 kg.
  • "Lo" on display: Batteries are empty.
  • "Err" on display: Fat content percentage is too low or too high to be displayed.

Important Safety Notes:

  • Children aged 8+ and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capacities may use the product under supervision and after instruction on safe use and understanding risks. Children must not play with the product.
  • Cleaning and maintenance by children aged 8+ must be supervised.
  • Swallowed batteries are life-threatening; keep batteries and scale out of reach of small children. Seek medical assistance immediately if a battery is swallowed.
  • Keep packaging material away from children to prevent choking.
  • Risk of explosion if batteries are replaced improperly; use only the specified type. Do not recharge, reactivate, dismantle, throw into fire, or short-circuit batteries.
  • Avoid contact with battery fluid. Rinse affected areas with clean water and seek medical attention.
  • Do not step on the outer edge of the scale (risk of tipping).
  • Do not step on the scale with wet feet or when the surface is damp (risk of slipping).
  • The weighing surface is glass; falling may cause glass breakage and injury from splinters.
  • Do not overload the scale.
  • Protect the scale from strong shocks and vibrations.
  • Remove depleted batteries or when not using the scale for extended periods to prevent damage from leakage.
  • Observe correct polarity (+/-) when inserting/changing batteries.
  • Do not expose batteries to extreme conditions (e.g., radiators, direct sunlight) to avoid leakage.
  • Clean battery and device contacts if needed.
  • Do not modify the product; only allow specialist workshops to perform repairs.
  • The scale has feet on the underside; if floor surfaces contain substances that may affect or soften the feet, place a non-slip pad underneath.
