Overview

The Adventure Kings Portable Gas Hot Water System is a device designed to provide heated water for washing and cleaning purposes in outdoor, well-ventilated environments. It is not intended for supplying drinking water. The system is designed to be used with a ULPG gas refillable container certified to AS 2469 or AS 2030, and it must only be used with the supplied 1200mm ULPG gas hose and regulator assembly.

Function Description:

The core function of the device is to heat water using gas burners. Water flows through the system, is heated, and then dispensed through a shower head. The system incorporates safety features to prevent overheating and ensure proper operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model number: AKHWS01
  • Injector size: 0.61 mm
  • Total nominal gas consumption: 28 MJ/h
  • Gas pressure: 2.8 kPa
  • Min water pressure: 0.3 MPa
  • Max water pressure: 1.0 MPa
  • Size: 440 x 300 x 130 mm
  • Weight: 5.3 kg
  • Gas input connection:
  • Water input connection:
  • Water output connection:
  • Power source: 2x 'D' batteries for ignition, 12V for the water pump.
  • Maximum outlet water temperature: 50°C (burners shut off if exceeded).
  • Temperature increase capability: Maximum (average) of 25°C above source water temperature.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: The appliance must be used outdoors in an above-ground, open-air situation with natural ventilation. Combustible surfaces, fabrics, and flammable materials must be kept at least 1000mm (1 meter) away from the sides and top of the appliance during operation.
  • Mounting: Designed to be hung upright against a non-combustible vertical surface using the handle attached to the back cover.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Water temperature can be adjusted using the gas regulator and water regulator control knobs on the front of the device. Increasing gas flow or decreasing water flow increases outlet water temperature. A 'season' control knob (Summer/Winter) allows for turning off some burners to save gas or activating all burners for hotter water.
  • Safety Features:
    • Over Temperature Sensor: Burners shut off if outlet water temperature reaches 50°C. To reignite, water flow must be turned off and on again.
    • Water Flow Sensor: Burners will only ignite if water is flowing through the system. If water flow is restricted (e.g., by shutting off the shower head), the burner extinguishes and will not relight until flow recommences.
  • Water Cycling: For maximum water temperature at higher flow rates, water can be cycled from a source reservoir (e.g., a bucket) through the heater and back into the reservoir multiple times until the desired temperature (up to 50°C) is reached.
  • Ignition: Requires 2x 'D' batteries for the ignition switch. The burner ignites with a series of clicks when water flow is initiated via the shower head switch.
  • Water Pump: A portable 12V water pump is supplied to draw water from a source. It connects to a 12V car battery or battery box via alligator clips. The pump is not waterproof and must be protected from water.
  • Gas Cylinder Connection: Connects to a ULPG gas refillable container using the supplied hose and regulator. Connections should be hand-tightened and then secured with the provided spanners, taking care not to overtighten.
  • Leak Detection: Always check for gas leaks using the 'soapy water' method at connection points. Never use a flame.
  • Storage: Store in a dry, well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight. Disconnect from the gas cylinder when storing.
  • Draining for Freezing Temperatures: If ambient temperature is below 0°C, it is essential to drain all water from the heater after use to prevent damage and voiding the warranty. This involves disconnecting water and gas supplies, turning the water flow knob to Min, and operating the drain valve at the base.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: Inspect the appliance regularly for signs of wear, leaks, or incorrect operation (e.g., burner flares, lighting issues, hose/connection damage, seal leaks).
  • Cleaning: Wipe down all surfaces and areas with warm soapy water and a mild detergent. Take care not to allow water to enter the burner outlets.
  • Filter Check: Before each use, check that the screen filter on the 'gas inlet' and 'water inlet' pipes is in place, clean, and free from particles or debris.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace 'D' batteries as needed for the ignition switch, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Gas Cylinder Check: Ensure the gas cylinder is not empty. If using a new cylinder, cycle the unit on and off several times to purge air from the gas lines. Check gas levels by weighing the cylinder and comparing to its tare weight.
  • Prohibited Actions:
    • Do not submerge the appliance in a sink or bowl.
    • Do not use abrasive cleaners or bleach.
    • Do not modify or attempt to repair the appliance. Any servicing or repairs must be carried out by an authorized person.
    • Do not operate in a dusty environment or within 300mm of electrical appliances/wires.
    • Do not place the water pump on hot surfaces.
    • Do not store when still connected to the gas cylinder.
    • Do not move or relocate the appliance when it is operating. Extinguish the burner, allow it to cool, and disconnect the gas cylinder before moving.
