Overview

This document is a user manual for an AEG freezer, model A71101TSXO, providing comprehensive instructions for its safe operation, daily use, maintenance, and installation.

Function Description

The AEG freezer is designed for keeping foodstuff and/or beverages in normal household and similar applications. It features a freezing compartment suitable for freezing fresh food and storing frozen and deep-frozen food for extended periods. The appliance uses isobutane (R600a) as a refrigerant, a natural gas with high environmental compatibility.

The freezer is equipped with a control panel that includes a Green On/Off Indicator Light, a Temperature Regulator and On/Off Switch, a Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator Light, an Acoustic Signal Stop and Fast Freeze Switch, and a Red Alarm Indicator Light. These indicators and controls allow users to manage the appliance's operation and monitor its status.

Usage Features

Switching On and Temperature Regulation: To switch on the appliance, the user needs to insert the plug into the wall socket and turn the Temperature Regulator clockwise to a temperature lower than "-16 °C". The Green On/Off Indicator Light will illuminate, indicating the appliance is on. The Red Alarm Indicator Light will blink until the internal temperature reaches a safe level for frozen food conservation, accompanied by an intermittent acoustic alarm that can be stopped by pressing the Acoustic Signal Stop and Fast Freeze Switch. The temperature within the appliance can be regulated by turning the Temperature Regulator towards lower settings for minimum coldness or higher settings for maximum coldness. A medium setting is generally recommended, with the exact setting depending on room temperature, door opening frequency, food quantity, and appliance location.

Fast Freeze Function: For freezing large quantities of food (more than 3-4 kg), the Fast Freeze function can be activated 6-24 hours before placing fresh food in the freezer by pressing the Fast Freeze Switch for 2-3 seconds. The Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator Light will illuminate, and the compressor will run continuously to ensure rapid freezing. The function can be deactivated manually by pressing the switch again or automatically after 48 hours. For maximum freezing performance, it is recommended to place foods in the top freezing compartment, removing the drawer if necessary.

Freezing and Storage Hints: The maximum quantity of food that can be frozen in 24 hours is specified on the rating plate. The freezing process takes 24 hours, during which no additional food should be added. Users are advised to freeze only top-quality, fresh, and thoroughly cleaned foodstuffs, prepared in small portions. Food should be wrapped in aluminum foil or polythene to ensure airtight packages. Fresh, unfrozen food should not touch already frozen food to prevent temperature rise. Lean foods store better and longer, while salt reduces storage life. Water ices consumed directly from the freezer can cause frost burns. It is advisable to mark the freezing date on each pack. For optimal storage, commercially frozen foodstuffs should be adequately stored by the retailer and transferred to the freezer as quickly as possible. The door should not be opened frequently or left open for extended periods. Defrosted food should not be refrozen.

Thawing: Deep-frozen or frozen food can be thawed at room temperature before use. Small pieces can be cooked directly from frozen, though this will require longer cooking times.

Normal Operating Sounds: Users may hear faint gurgling and bubbling sounds as refrigerant is pumped through coils, a whirring and pulsating noise from the compressor, and sudden cracking noises due to thermic dilatation. These are normal operating sounds. A faint "click" may also be heard when the compressor switches on or off.

Maintenance Features

Periodic Cleaning: The appliance requires regular cleaning. The interior and accessories should be cleaned with lukewarm water and a neutral soap, then rinsed and dried thoroughly. Door seals should be checked and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris. The condenser (black grill) and compressor at the back of the appliance should be cleaned with a brush to improve performance and save electricity. Harsh detergents, abrasive powders, or highly perfumed cleaning products should not be used on the interior as they can damage the surface and leave strong odors. The outer casing should be cleaned with warm water and a little washing-up liquid.

Defrosting the Freezer: Frost will naturally accumulate on freezer shelves and around the top compartment. The freezer should be defrosted when the frost layer reaches a thickness of about 3-5 mm. Approximately 12 hours before defrosting, the Temperature Regulator should be set to higher settings to build up sufficient chill reserve. To defrost, switch off the appliance, disconnect the mains plug, remove all stored food (wrapping it in newspaper and placing it in a cool spot), and leave the door open. A plastic scraper should be inserted into the appropriate seating at the bottom center, with a basin underneath to collect defrost water. Warm water can be placed in the freezer compartment to speed up the process. Once defrosting is complete, the interior should be dried thoroughly. The appliance should then be switched on, the Temperature Regulator set to "-18 °C", and allowed to run for at least 4 hours in quick freeze mode before reloading food. Sharp metal tools or artificial means should not be used to scrape frost, as this can damage the evaporator.

Periods of Non-Operation: For long periods of non-use, the appliance should be disconnected from the electricity supply, all food removed, defrosted, and cleaned. The door should be left open to prevent unpleasant smells. If the cabinet is left on, it should be checked periodically to prevent food spoilage in case of a power failure.
